Tour d'Algerie - Stage 2
tsmoha
i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_001_zps1a33cd51.jpg

Another tricky stage featuring the most challenging sectors in the first half of the day though. Yesterday the peloton struggled to control the breakaway's gap, with also some heavy crosswinds playing a factor.

Will Guillén, at least showing some ambitions yesterday, and those other sprinters do better today? And how will Euskaktel handle their unexpected GC-lead?

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_002_zpse717d64b.jpg

Well, the team definitely goes for a whole different tactic than the teams did in the opener: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Euskaltel does not allow any breakaway group to go clear and keeps the thing together as we already enter the second half of the stage!

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_003_zps11301702.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillén keeps collecting uncontested points and seconds towards the GC and takes both intermediate sprints today!

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_004_zps053f404f.jpg

An uneventful day was always going to end in a bunch-sprint and with less than 10km to go, we get an idea of which teams will try to lead the pack into the sprint: Bonsucro, Alpina, ONCE and also Sauber showing their colors at the front..

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_005_zps14a871e6.jpg

And yes, those teams would build trains for their respective sprinters.. an overview with the sprint soon to be kicked off:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Parrai439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Zamri Salleh

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guilléni439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Manarellii439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Vingerlingi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Sinner
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Fonsecai439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mlj.png Gajeki439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Schinker

Most notable name yet failing to be at the front: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Meyer, who obviously hadn't the best position in the bunch prior to this crucial moments.

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_006_zps8e01cee5.jpg

Sauber with a small advantage over Alpina with the kite approaching, while some more names at least caught up to the ONCE-train: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png Renshaw/Briggs and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Richeze!

Still no sign of Meyer to move forward to the very front, he's likely to miss out on this stage today..

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_007_zps3a2be37c.jpg

The first leadouts dropped off, but all four trains still have their final leadout sprinting into the final km!

Alpina now faster than Sauber and several sprinters struggling to hang on!

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_008_zps5af9e274.jpg

And here go the captains and obviously, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Awang lost some ground on i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillén, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Manarelli and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Vingerling, who left the slipstream to go on his own now!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Schinker and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Sinner trying to keep the pace..

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_009_zps726a7a21.jpg

..but the line approaching, it more and more looks like a battle between Vingerling and Forero! Manarelli not too far behind, while Guillén looks boxed in..

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_010_zpsa8cf5347.jpg

Vingerling and Forero now head-to-head, as the latter could make up some ground in the meantime! Manarelli maybe too far behind to be in the mix for the win..

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Guatemala/14Algerie_2_011_zps478ad6e1.jpg

Photo-finish! And it's... i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero, who takes out the second stage ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Vingerling and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Manarelli! A thrilling sprint and some strong leadouts there!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillén at least overtook i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Aguilar to go for 4th, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Meyer was a non-factor as 18th today.. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Fernandez saw his team working well to control the race and retains yellow, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillén holds on to his 3rd thanks to the intermediate sprints. Anyway, the top-sprinters finally have "landed" in Algerie!
