The Favourites:
| | FLAT | SPRINT | ACC. | | HLL. | | Napolitano | 73 | 82 | 82 | | 66 | | Thorsen (!) | 61 | 82 | 85 | | 54 | | Goss | 74 | 82 | 78 | | 67 | | Van Staeyen | 76 | 81 | 77 | | 76 | | Greipel | 74 | 80 | 78 | | 66 | | M Richeze | 75 | 80 | 79 | | 66 | | Docker | 72 | 79 | 77 | | 68 | | Vaitkus | 78 | 78 | 76 | | 66 | | Gavazzi | 71 | 78 | 72 | | 74 | | Gatto | 71 | 78 | 72 | | 74 | | Kreder | 75 | 78 | 80 | | 70 | | Hoffman | 76 | 78 | 78 | | 68 |
Having won the first edition of the race it is Napolitano who starts as favourite. Having said that he is by no means a shoe-in to even podium, as he faces stiff opposition. He my be hindered by the fact his team doesn't look too capable of forming a sprint train.
Van Staeyen will go into the race as the most decorated puncheur. Now the terrain is not expected to cause too many problems to the pure sprinters, however, Van Staeyen may come to the last few hundred meters with plenty of reserves of stamina which, combined with his quality sprint, makes him a genuine threat for the win.
Goss is supported by a strong team of riders great against the clock. He will be there or thereabouts and will be looking to finish on the podium.
This race, being in Ukraine, is very important for Metinvest-Emirates and Privatbank - Nemiroff. Each have a credible chance at the stage win and it will be good viewing to see which team leaves with the bragging rights between the two. In the same race in 2013 Metinvest-Emirates had a disaster, Hoffman only managed a 15 th place finish. They will be determined to set that result right.
The list of favourites is too long to cover everyone in detail, but there are a good 10+ sprinters who will fancy their chances of a podium finish or better.
---
Gazelle don't bring an out and out sprinter to the race, however, in Oss and Nuyens they bring two riders capable of succeeding from a late attack. Whereas Team Kenya Airways bring Gasparatto, who is a very interesting rider. He may be one to put in a late attack or try his hand in the sprint.
Compal-Merida, BelarusBank Pro Cycling, Team Ameriabank-Novatek & Team Nordeus are teams which will be looking for some sponsor exposure, at best! Though Mat Senan's recent victory proves you never can tell what is going to happen.
-- Will Napolitano make it 2 for 2?
-- Will we even see a bunch sprint decide the victor?
-- Will Privatbank - Nemiroff or Metinvest-Emirates win in their homeland?
All will answered soon!

Hopefully some sprinters will have trouble on the hills. However, if so it'll still be hard to perform well. I at least want the team to join the break.

I like how the PCT splits the top sprinters in those clashing sprinter classics. So good startlists for both races.
That said, I expect this one here to become a bigger gamble due to the hills, where breakaways might once again annoy the top sprinters.
This is when other teams like Venchi, Meiji, Oz refuse to support Privatbank as in the recent classics. |

Hmmmm this will be quite interesting. Breakaway on such course has pretty high chances of succeeding so wonder how will that pan out.
Hope Ukrainian teams do well in their home race!

Let's just hope this will go better than Interlagos did... I quite like my chances seeing I have 2 of the stronger sprinters here, and Polivoda isn't too far behind either...
That said this is a win goal, and my last chance to actually complete a goal this season...

Should be a good course for Van Stayen. I really hope this will end in a bunch sprint. If it does, anything can happen. Hoping for a podium!

Hoping that Gasparotto can use his good hill stat here. He's been anonymous so far this season, but he's our only leader here so should hopefully not be overshadowed and turn in a good performance. |

Not really! I have had this one done for over two weeks now. If it seems like I am doing a lot that is because few people want to report, hence April taking about 4 months to finish.
Hopefully some more people step up for May as I don't think I will be taking any races for some time.

This race is certainly a big one for those teams which missed out in Melaka. |

This will be interesting to follow. Weaker startlist definitely not worth the risk of having an exhausted sprinter or a break staying away for me, and luckily that proved to be the right choice.
Can't seriously look past Van Stayen for this. Wishing for Gaspa to make some impact and Meiji would seriously deserve some result out of those classics now.

Good to see that both sprint classics were won by sprinters opposite to the clashing HC sprint classics some days earlier.
Also the outcome is pretty accurate on a hillier course. Only Docker or eventually Gatto could have done better I think.
On one of the last screenshots I already thought the break would make it. Still shows how strong they go in the final part of a race. |

Great. My team hasn't learnt how to go into the break yet. At least the report was nice to read, thanks for that.
