PCM freezing on "Load"

So, PCM suddenly decided to come up with a weird problem: I can use all menu options correctly, except for "Load", which is a pretty important one! When I press Load, the game freezes and I can't do anything about it. I'm running PCM 12 on Windows 8.1 with the Protection Patch.

In the log I see the following message coming up 4 times on pressing Load, is it related?
..\Fs\src\FS_CFileTools.cpp(0037): boost error: File operation

Any help is welcome, the game is unplayable like this.

Have you got patch 1.3.1.0?

No, I have 1.4.0.0 and everything worked fine until today.

Problems with the load button are mosty caused by a broken save.
As soon as you have removed the broken file, it should work again.

If there are many files and/or the save hasn't been broken due to a game crash, remove all files to another folder and put them back one by one and test in the game.

To recover a career, follow the instructions I always give: Backup ~, weeklysave, and so on...
