Hi guys,
I have been playing PCM14 for a while now but am having difficulties with trying to grow a custom young team beyond year 2 as I always run out of money or have to let go of most of the riders. The problem seems to be as follows:
in year 1 you get exactly the amount per month as your salaries. At the same time, the sponsor goals are ridiculous for a young talent team. So you have two options, either reduce the sponsor goals or accept that the sponsor will be unhappy anyway.
With option 1 you lose money every month so quickly that it becomes very difficult to not go below 0. If this happens by July you cannot renew the contracts of the riders that are ending, i.e. you lose your future great..
With option 2 you can survive the first year if you are careful with money but the sponsor money is reduced for the 2nd year. Combined with increased salary demands as your riders are getting better, this creates an impossible financial scenario again.
My question to Cyanide (in vain I know...): Do you even play the game.?...surely someone else must have noticed this when testing. For a a management game the financial system is atrocious. You can't even renew a contract before it is finished.
My question to the forum: Other than adding editing the database is there any way to get around this?
Thanks,
Richard
p.s. My 'solution' now is to add some better riders who can win stages in the first year to keep sponsor happiness up. Even this works unsatisfactory in my mind. Once I had more victories than any other Pro-Conti team and lead the rankings by a lot. Yet the sponsor was still unhappy because I did not finish top 3 in the main sponsor races....

Play season 1 on easy where you can still win races with young, sub-par talent. Then switch to harder difficultly in year two. |

On normal difficulty you only have to search for the right races in the calender...There are many .2 races in there with less teams (the asian races are pretty easy for getting many points). If you get good results there it´s worth enough for making the sponsors happy.
I had for example the Tour of Langkawi in Malaysia (i think 2.HC) on normal with Tiago Machada (Net-App Endura - 74 Mountain) and the only challenger for the GC was Vasil Kriyenka (75)...third was Isaac Bolivar (71) - so you see, for a .HC race it´s way easier as f.e. in Europe...
If you have a sprinter is always good to place a train early...so most of the others will place themselves behind yours or in 1-2 other trains...so you can be nearly sure to go in the top ten...Vattenfall Cyclassics(1.S.Bennett 2.Ciolek 3.Cavendish 4.Bouhanni 5.D.Schorn)...as a pro conti you can get much prestige in low rated WT races (f.e. Tour de Pologne), they are often not as hard as french/italian/spanish .1 races
You only have to watch out that you don´t level your licence up by getting to much points if you don´t want to...on my vacansoleil career with young belgian/dutch riders i went to pro-continental by accident
try to offer young riders 3 years contracts...you will save so much money |

Well you can edit your budget with an editor Also it depends on what Database your using , because some enables you to have a higher budget in custom mode

Thanks for the replies everyone!
I would like to try this without 'cheating' by placing it in easier modes or editing the database.
Good tips on the right races @Croatia14, I will try that next time. Although like I mentioned, even in a season where I ranked top of the continentals, the sponsors were still not happy enough and lowered my salary budget... |

I'm playing with a custom team, with riders under 23 years old and stats not above from 73/72, i play in hard difficult.
And i already won some races and got several top 3, 5 and 10 in stage races or in some classics. My sponsor is very happy (full green bar) and i earn important money to keep my custom and young team in race.
So, in my opinion isn't hard to play with this kind of teams. |

Thanks CanoJuancho! I think I know what is going on here. I was playing 12-14 new young riders and always 2 existing young riders with good stats because I thought they would help me reach the sponsor goals. But after your post I realized that perhaps the 2 good riders are creating the difficulty in the first place.
After some tests it turns out you are right. With just the young guys, the sponsor goals are much more achievable.
I will start a new career and play it like that.
Thanks! |

Also note that you can renew before July, actually you can do it straightaway in January already.
I always do that because after a few races I normally see my rider's salary demands go up, either because they win or grow.
So just renew your future greats for three years in January, and you can keep your talent on board for a cheap price.

Well, I tried every single way and there's no chance I can renew a contract or sign a Free Agent before 21st July. I tried few different teams, few different DBs and it's not working. Reinstalled game 2 times aswell. Of course I can do it with editor, but it would be just easier to make it work in-game, as I'd use that alot.
