My first career season has gone well but when I look at the list of registered riders that pleased my sponsor, the list is very short and most of them occurred in the first few months of the season.

I tend to schedule specific riders to specific races last minute, maybe one month in advance. Am I not getting credit for registering riders because I didn't have them all scheduled out through the end of the year back in January?

I don't think it matters when they are scheduled in. It (realistically) just recognizes the presence of the rider, irrespective of condition etc. The rider popularity stat is the one to pay attention to, isn't it (hidden stat). You can see it using a DB editor, but it's visible as the profile of the rider in-game (e.g Star, etc). The sponsors want your most popular riders in their objective races.

Also, be aware that popularity/profile isn't necessarily linked to current ability, so your biggest name might be an ageing star rather than the up and coming guy with better stats. I was able to score big points with the sponsor when playing as Cannondale by choosing Basso in Tirreno-Adriatico (though he had no chance of winning anything).
Can anyone confirm that rider nationality has an effect on recognition when chosen for races on his country?
