I have some questions on both the realtime race and on the sim part of it:
1 - It seems to me that Quick Sim is kinda weird in 2014, the cyclists never do what I tell them to and the final standing are always awkard aside from very mountainous stages or very flat stages .
Like if I change the leader before the race and assign him 5 domestiques (and he is let's say Pinot) and he is with everything excelent and form at 1, lots of times I have 3 domestiques that finish ahead of him.
Similarly my free elements even though I tell them to attack and go for mountain sprints they never do as I'm guessing they never get in breakaways.
What's the point of having 5 domestiques on a leader if only one is protecting him?
Is this the normal behavior and if not what am I doing wrong?
2 - Now in auto mode, I have Demare at gent-wevelgem and he is a 2nd favorite to win it.
I sim the race in realtime I set everyone to auto from the beginning with a good cobble guy protecting him and he gets in the last 30km in front with the favorites (around a group of 25-30).
He is with everything almost full, stamina , energy and still being protected. I had set him with counter attacks and go for stage (as he is leader) but surprisingly cancellara and a group of 15 riders attack and he doesn't do anything, he just stays there even though in perfect condition.
Woe me, after the 15 have taken a good lead he decides to go ON HIS OWN at max effort with infinite relay.
This doesn't make any sense..
I really would appreciate the help since it's weird begaviors that I don't know if others are experiencing.
There are many reasons for having more than one domestique. Do you watch real cycling races? One is fetching water, one is the pilot, others have to work at the front of the race, and you need backup if one falls, ....
Maybe the database is causing it, you should try it with the official database.
But if you simulate or use the auto-mode, you cannot believe that you win all races. It would be lame and would remove the fun from playing the stages yourself.
Yes, I watch cycling and have been playing PCM since the first one.
But the real point of domestiques is to protect the main rider from winds and help if someone dangerous decides to breakaway, asides from other small stuff.
But that's in real life. In the game you won't notice a difference if you put 5 domestiques or just 1. Only the one protecting him actually does something and you will end up at good stamina with only one.
Plus if you have 5 and someone decides to breakaway, normally only one of the domestiques goes into an infinite relay (which again is stupid) and it's normally the guy that is protecting the leader which makes even less sense.
The DB can't be causing AI problems. It only changes rider stats not how they behave.
And I didn't say I wanted to win all races. What I said is I'm experiencing weird beahvior when I quick sim the race.
For instance Paris-Nice (which isnt a a forgiving race since it has 4 mountain stages) I ended up with my lowest mountain rider in 3rd place. Yes the worst climber I had placed 3rd OVERALL.

I have not simulated any races in PCM 2014 but as far as I know, the simulation hasn't been reprogrammed in the last 5 versions of the game. And in previous games there was for example an option to "protect the leaders jersey" and it made a difference if you assigned 1 or 5 riders to do this job. But maybe we are not talking about the same thing.
If you want to know which factors are used for the simulation, have a look in the XML-files.

The simulation does not involve any "behaviours". It works like rolling imbalanced dice. (The higher the stats, the more weight)
i sim all races, and i cant really say ive noticed many problems riders seem to perform as expected stage to stage...based on fitness and stats, occasionally a helper will finish higher than leader but the domestic usually has good stats and better fitness. Only gripe i have is, as i have posted, getting rider into breaks to finsih stage.
i cant comment on automode but using FDB14 v1.5 on sim has been consistent with expectations tbh.
