I looked for this all over the forum and couldn't find it... I need to know what software I can use to edit or created a Helmet for the game.
If someone knows for Mac it would be better. If not I can also use PC. |

If you want to change the shape of the helmet you will need a program like 3ds Max or Blender. But if you want to change the appearance of the helmet (e.g. change a blue helmet to yellow) you can use Photoshop/Gimp etc. You'll need a .dds plugin if you want your helmet to appear ingame. In that way you can save the helmet in the .dds format.

Well, there is no one file. Every helmet has its own graphic file. This post from BoogieBoogie shows what I mean:
https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=12874&pid=340700#post_340546
...and this is an example of such a file for the Saxobank helmet:

No, I have to deal with that as well, unfortunately. But the .dds viewer is available for Windows. Another way to do it on Mac is to create the helmet in .tga (with the alpha channels) and convert it to .dds using XnView. That is a cumbersome way of doing it, but it will get the job done.
Btw. the alpha channels determine what will appear in game. Everything that is white in the alpha channel will appear and everything that is black won't. Everything in between will have an opacity.

Thanks Deksel! Is there a tutorial made on how to change the helmets appearance trough the alpha channels?
Can I just edit the ..._d.dds file? Or do I have to edit the others too?

You can also use Paint.NET. This program handles .dds from the beginning

Even better. I didn't know that because I have never used anything other than Photoshop.
cymarel, I don't know if there is a tutorial made on that but is is not that difficult. You can experiment with it: change the _d file from the helmet and change the alpha channel. Than save it in .tga and check your helmet out in NifSkope. Just change it a couple of times and see what happens.
You can just edit the _d file. The other files are not as important as the _d file. The _s file can be a pain in the ****, because this is the file that handles the autocolor function in PCM.

Another thing how do I put the helmet in the game? What do I do with the .nif file?

If you're using any databases with custom helmets (DailyDB) you can replace those for your own helmets files. Otherwise you'll have to replace any other helmet that the game is using. You can see which helmets the game is using in the STA_Equipment table in the database.
You can also change the database a little bit. Then you don't have to replace any file, you can just add the 4 helmet files to the 3D/Cyclist/Equipments/Helmets folder.
