Variant "mixing" question

Can you simply make a variant of existing stages and have the game automatically insert the rules of the new race ?

For example, if i take a stage from the Tour Mediterraneen and set it to be a stage of the the Tour de France by copying and then renaming it accordingly, will the game use the TDF rules in terms of the point and mountain jersey ?

Tested it with 1 stage and didn´t see any ill effects, but still thought i´d ask around before doing it with more.

Yes, it's the race not the stages which define the points, bonus seconds, etc.
