The mountain time trial is so hard. I was playing as Van Garderen and had Wiggins and Froome behind me and they both passed me and I ended up losing 3 minutes. I managed my energy fine, but they still seemed to get past me. I don't know what to do!!!

van garderen is weak,i lost 2-3 min too at motnain tt
anyway,i played with wiggins.won easily both itt
36 min54 sec if i remember, beat tony martin or cancellara with 5 sec
43 min and something, beat contador with 46 sec and froome with 56 sec
i played first time with wiggins and from first time won
it was more harder tdf2012 itt because when you hit a side road,it would stop you
here i hit several times and reduced a little from my speed and still won easily
You are doing it wrong then..
I was playing Van Garderen and finished seconde after a perfect Andy Schleck, he was more than a minute better than me, although i managed to take time on Froome, Wiggens and Contador (who is absolute overrated in the game).
Besides this result with van garderen, i also managed to finish second with Nibali 4 seconds behind Wiggens, also won the time trial with Rodriguez.
So here is how i do the Mountain TT:
Attack every time the red bar is full, but remember not to empty it full cause you will just 'hit the wall' and ride slower for a few seconds which is a lot in the end. Also give it all you got the entire stage.
When riding downhill switch the gear to the lower one (The reason i do this is, to rest the highest amount of energy when going downhill. The difference in speed isnt much)
Bear in mind that you might be close to the end of your energy when 0.5km to 1 km from the second summit. So slow down a bit (about 3/4 of the bar in high gear). Also note that this is only tested with riders with ~80 mountain stat.
I hope this will help you win the tour or just minimize the loss you are suffering
