I never know how to react in the following situation. You are relaying with your climbers in the final climb. Your best climber is still protected. Your teammates still have some juice to relay for lets say 10 km before they have to fall back. But then one or more of the favorites attack. What do you do?
- Do you keep relaying with your teammates in the hopes to close the gap?
- Do you follow with your leader, abandoning your teammates and your protector?
- Do you set your leader on dot, so that he closes the gap while still being protected? Your other teammates will fall back of course.
i mostly set my leader on dot with a high effort. But because he is still protected, his yellow bar will not decline so fast. However, I loose my other teammates. I always feel that I could have done something different with them as at this point in the stage, they still have some energy and they could be helpful in some way.
In my experience the AI always attacks on the foot of the last climb, therefore it is not easily possible to rip the race apart. Furthermore it does not answer the questions.
I tend not to attack or counter-attack because the AI riders often catch up on my rider after. But depending on the game difficulty it should be possible to catch any attacker with steady pace of your helper (or leader after the helper is wasted). But it is critical to react quickly, no matter what you do.
