Can you cause crashes in 3D race mode?

(Not the catastrophic game ending type)

I'm wondering whether it's possible to deliberately cause massive pile ups in the peloton during a 3D race stage? There's just not enough chaos in my game, especially during the grand tours. It seems that I only see massive crashes in the Giro...

No, crashed are random. There is a higher chance to crash during descents and when it rains

and I've seen quite a few in sprint finishes, well more then elsewhere anyway.
