OK, whilst preparing for next season, I thought I'd give you some facts and figures about contracts in the ProTour:
- The most expensive riders are:
1. Tom Danielson FED-EX € 1,500,000
2. Emmanule Sella TELEFONICA € 1,150,000.00
3. Paolo Savoldelli CARLSBERG € 1,012,000
4. Michael Rasmussen CARSLBERG € 1,000,000
5. Stefan Schumacher CARLSBERG € 1,000,000
These are the only million euro riders in the ProTour
- The most expensive Team Leader is Frank Schleck of Accumalux, who earns €770,000. The cheapest team leaders are Fabian Cancellara (Accumalux), Michael Boogerd (Credit Agricole) and Danilo Di Luca (La Gazetta), who all earn €400,000
- The most expensive Co-leader is Sella, lieutenant is Savoldelli, young talent is Burghardt of Fed-Ex (€700,000), luxury talent is Manuel Medina (Accumalux), who earns €607,00 and domestique is in fact the most expensive - Tom Danielson (who has earned 4 points so far :lol
Contracts next season are going to change, but until that time, just laugh at Danileson for a while |

*laughs* 1,500,000€ for four points? Thats 375,000€ per point!
Just to add some continental madness: I've paid 450k for Nicácio and he's scheduled to do four races this season. Two of which he have failed in so far.

I paid over 600,000 for Medina?
Schleck deserves all the money I pay him though

I didn't tell the whole truth there - half the wage was paid for by the sponsor, but €750,000 for 4 pts is still bad |

hehe, THREE million dollar riders!
Savoldelli hasnt scored many points, but in the races he has been in we have scored tons, so he is doing his job. Hell be fired in the off season for sure!
Schumacher dissapointed in the early classics but has shown the class on occasions. His contract is up for review!
Michael Rasmussen rides like he was doped to his eyebrows (also the sponsors pay ½). His contract depends heavily on what the sponsors think. He is no longer young!
But as long as im no. 1. im a happy bunny!

And STILL i didnt spen my entire budget.
I got a lot of cash from some controversial "Ill sell bfore you steal" trades...
I am assuming you are rethinking the steal system, right?

If re-thinking means throwing it as far out of the window as possible, yes

As a whole Steals are failures. They only work when the steal is of a not-so good rider or when it is simply ludicrous that its not worth blocking the steal (Wiggins!!!!!).
Other than that, people are just determined to make sure their rider does not get stolen.

The thing with steals is it what was meant to resemble the fact that in real life, riders don't stick with the same team every year. A new system should hopefully do this, but far better |

He fits the CT perfectly, I might sell him if I get promoted. He would probably fetch quite a bit of cash.

I would suggest some sort of minimum buyout clause like they have in spanish football. it could be something like double salary or something.
ie. somebody wants to steal Rasmuseen at his 1.000.000 wage. Theyd have to pay me 1.000.000 and Rasmussen salary of 1.000.000 + perhaps a raise for Rasmussen for the steal.
That would have two benifits:
1) It would make it possible but expensive to steal
2) It would make it less "sour" and give fewer bad feelings! I know I hated it when people stole my riders.

The system we now have doesn't even have a steal system, and given the hatred towards it, we'll only consider re-adding in for 2010, when everyone's forgotten it |
