It's finally here, Pasul Urdere. 11kms at an average of 9.6%.

And it does. So no need to recap the KoM checkpoints. Let's jump to the only sprint prime with Rijntjes and Petrovski well placed in the GC battle.

They are surely making their presence know as 22 riders have already been dropped. Cioban still has two helpers going strong as they track back Danielson. But now they have to worry about Menchov, Rodas, Ndbri, and Marzano attacking. That is one heck of a group with 10kms to go. They know they have to pressure Cioban the entire climb.

Ndbri finally forces a small gap. Menchov and Marzano are trying to come across.

But that is quickly reeled back in. Cioban is clearly struggling in the middle of what is now a 36 man peloton.

With Cioban just hanging on, it's still his teammate Rudaskov pushing the tempo on the front. Has he not got the memo or is this part of their team strategy?

Ndbri wants to join him but Rodas would rather let his teammate Ihlenfeldt bring the peloton back up to him.

Ndbri agrees to Rodas' idea but Marzano still holds a 40 second lead with 5kms to go.

Mechov can't wait any longer however as Marzano is now over a minute up the road.

Rodas with a lot of heart pulls back Menchov with 2kms to go. The gap to Marzano remains untouched though.

Marzano can taste the stage win and yellow jersey waiting for him in 700 meters.

Rodas isn't giving up yet, Parra Bustamante is also looking to secure a podium.

The two Colombians are sprinting away from the chase group.

Marzano just tore up this climb and gets Kappa another stage win, but more importantly the yellow jersey with one day to go.

Rodas had the great team tactics but they just couldn't track back Marzano so 2nd place is a very nice result for him. Plus a nice gap back to the group he lead up the climb gives him 2nd overall.

Then it's former teammate Parra Bustamante, who just couldn't match the strong sprint of Rodas. But 3rd overall is heading his way regardless.

Rojas Villegas and Mechov finish off the top 5. Menchov probably would have liked better considering all the attacks and effort he exerted.

Then it is the remainder of the Rodas group making up the top 10.

Just over a minute later are Kononenko and Gallego. Followed by everybody that was dropped by the Rodas group.

A lot of small gaps between the riders as the sprint that lead to the finish was crucial. Over 6 minutes after Marzano finishes comes the yellow jersey of Cioban. You diffidently can't say his team didn't try to defend it for him. The mountain was just too much and ultimately will decide the winner of the Tour of Romania. No abandons so all the sprinter will be present for the final stage tomorrow.
