We are ISD Continental Team, and we are on a quest for promotion. But we must be true to our Ukrainian heritage. So we will stay pure to Ukraine and our fellow eastern European Ex-USSR countries. The overall goal is to reach WT. It will be tough. First we must go pro conti. That is the seasons goal. I hope you will follow the story of how the Russain Katusha squad were crushed by the Ukrainians. It will be fun!
Leaders
Vitaliy Popkov (Time Trialist)
He has been with us a while and at 29 is waiting to breakthrough. He is a strong time trialist but will give the hills a good go as well. He does have a chance of getting some great results this season
Dimitri Kristov (Sprinter)
Although he says he is a sprinter he is actually a very versitile rider. An ex-Lampre rider who wants to return to his former level. He has been with us before. Should be up for a few wins this season if he is still in the pack after a hard hilly race.
Oleksandr Sheydyk (Sprinter)
Similar to Kristov. At 32 he is older but again will be in for similar race finishes. He too came down to us from Lampre and hols similar ambitions.
The Rest
Yuriy Agarkov (25 - Sprinter)
Oleksandr Martyneko (23 - Northern Classics)
Anatoliy Pakthusov (27 - Stage Races)
Vladyslav Bakumenko (21 - Puncheur)
Volodymyr Dzhus (19 - Puncheur)
Dmytro Volovod (20 - Stage Races)
Maksym Vasilyev (22 - Puncheur)
Denys Karnulin (22 - Stage Races)

The winner of the Australian National championships is Matthew Goss (Orica - GreenEdge). Edging out Mark Renshaw in a gripping sprint finish. Whilst his team mate Cameron Meyer was the winner of the ITT. Just over in New Zealand Jesse Sergent (Radioshack - Leopard) won the time trial and Greg Henderson (Lotto - Belisol) dominated the sprint in the road race.

Thanks for the support guys!
Santos Tour Down Under
The team were of course not present for the Tour Down Under, maybe in a couple of seasons. Mark Renshaw took the first stage in the team's new colours. He also won stage 2 and was looking strong. But then came the hills and Vasil Kiryienka beat his team mate Christian Knees by 13s. Marco Marcato lead in the next group 27s down. Greg Henderson was showing off his national champion's jersey as he took stage 4 from Renshaw. Rinaldo Nocentini was the first up Old Wilunga Hill, 12s to the closest man and Kiryenka was high enough placed to hold his leader's jersey. Renshaw took the Adelaide criterium as Kiyienka won GC followed by Nocentini and Angel Vicioso in 3rd.
The team has schedualed a warm up training camp in preparation for the Trofeo Laigueglia. So you better watch out. ISD are about! |

Trofeo Laigueglia

Gianluca Accorsi: For me the route is just perfect for Sylvain Chavanel to make a move!
Henri Timmermans: Well, it is bound to come back together for a sprnt and for that rerason it has to be Francesco Gavazzi.
Kim Kirchen:You're both wrong. Luca Paolini will be the victor today.
ISD Continental Team Squad
#221 Vitaliy Popkov
#222 Yuriy Agarkov
#223 Denys Karnulin
#224 Dimitri Kristov
#225 Oleksandr Martynenko
#226 Anatoliy Pakthusov
#227 Illya Ponomarenko
#228 Oleksandr Sheydyk
A slightly overcast day meant mild conditions for the racers. No one was grumbling too much about it.

After the initial barrage of attcks 5 men got clear. Luckily at ISD we managed to get Pakthusov in there. With him were Gastauer, Debrusschere, Graziato and Di Serafino. Others tried to join. But Katusha and Quick-Step were having none of it. No more than 5 men!

70km to go: Jens Debrusschere starts to attack. They still had 4m on the peleton. No one trusted anyone now but the gap was coming down from the maximum of 5m 58s. Pakthusov was told to sit tight and follow.

Up the hill once more. The gap had been halfed again and Pakthusov and Gastauer were left behind. We told him it was game over and to wait for the peleton.

32km left: Sergey Lagutin made a move. It was towards the summit of the hill for the final time.

Others joined him. You can see the group of 9 as they powered up to the 3 leaders. And no your eyes do not deceive you, there were 3 Katusha riders there (Kolobnev, Paolini, Spilak)

AG2R were motoring for Gadret and managed to join the strung out peleton to the rear of the group. And Chavanel countered. It was an awesome move up this penultimate kick but then disaster

He was down on the floor. Luckily most of the peleton avoided it. 5 or 6 got caught up. Including our own Martynenko

Gadret made a move but with 2km to go - entering the final sprint - he had little over 15s.

1km left. It was a grueling sprint. Everyone was knackered there is no room when everyone's this close. Popkov was well positioned but was caught out.

At the finish Kolobnev managed to edge it out. It was too close to tell the rest. Popkov still had enough energy left but alas his positioning was not up to scratch. After the hills it was a shame about the finish. He managed 13th which considering the field is a result in itself.

I am pleased with today. Not the result but the condition of the boys. We should do well in South Africa. Perhaps taking home a stage win, if we're lucky.

There will be pictures to be put in but my computer is playing up. I will put them in this evening.
As for the experts they are a regional reporter (who knows the route). The 1.1 correspondent. And a previous winner of the race. |
