This will be my story with Francaise des Jeux. My first story with PCM 2012. I already have some experience though. I will start with a small presentation of the team.

The team is build around three of cycling's biggest talents. Two sprinters and a climber/Grand tour rider. Around Demare, Nacer Bouhanni and Thibaut Pinot. Neither of these has reached the age of 23 so the future of the team and of French cycling in a whole is in their hands.

Young Leaders

Arnaud Demare

www.procyclingstats.com/riders/2013/thumbs/Arnaud-Demare-2013.png

Arnaud Demare became U23 world champ in Danemark in 2011 in a group sprint. He had no problem adapting to the higher level in his first pro year last year winning multiple stages as also taking the Vattenfall classic in Hamburg. One of the biggest sprinter's classic in the World Tour.

Nacer Bouhanni

www.procyclingstats.com/riders/2013/thumbs/Nacer-Bouhanni-2013.png

Just as Demare, Bouhanni is incredibly fast. He beated the earlier in last year's French championship so is currently wearing the tricolore. He got several top 10's during the Vuelta but missed out on the stage win. His goal for this year is to change that.

Thibaut Pinot

www.procyclingstats.com/riders/2013/thumbs/Thibaut-Pinot-2013.png

Thibaut Pinot already showed himself in 2011 winning a Dauphine stage but his real breakthrough happend during last years Tour de France. He won the mountain stage in Porrentruy from a break and stayed with the best on the other mountain top finishes to go home with a 10th place overal. His goal this year is to do better in La Grande Boucle while also coming home with the white jersey.

The Experience

Sandy Casar

www.procyclingstats.com/riders/2013/thumbs/Sandy-Casar-2013.png

Casar is quite a talented rider but at his best when attacking. Always watch out for him to take a stage win from a succesfull break, no matter what race. He has also spend his whole career with the team.

Pierrieck Fedrigo

www.procyclingstats.com/riders/2013/thumbs/Pierrick-Fedrigo-2013.png

Le Nez de Marmande is also a talented rider who is very dangerous in breaks. He has won 4 TdF stages. Not many riders can say that. Especially those who are neither a top sprinter nor a top climber.

Matthieu Ladagnous

www.procyclingstats.com/riders/2013/thumbs/Matthieu-Ladagnous-2013.png

Ladagnous has been a decent rider through his whole career but definatly took a step forward during last year's Paris - Roubaix. He showed he can follow the best on the cobbles and while focus on those races for us this year.

Here is the full team roster:

Good luck Spilak, you're a great writer, and I like your avatar too. Wink

Thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes!

TTspecialist, as Ian said, you have added some new riders to the team so having the same team should be no problem.

And I updated the first post a bit, expect it to be fully updated during the week.

Santos Tour Down Under Preview

www.wielertaal.nl/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Santos-Tour-Down-Under.jpg

The Santos Tour Down Under is generally the start to the professional cycling season. It's also the first World Tour race for some time now. The race used to be a sprinters-fest but more and more hills were tackled with now also an uphill finish on the famous Old Willunga Hill.

Spoiler
i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm4_zpsaded21c4.jpg

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm3_zpse8781303.jpg

Our team is led by Bouhanni who will go for the mass sprints though he is still in early season form. Roux is our leader for the overal but we don't think he has any chance for a top 5. With some luck, a top 10 might be possible. The opposition in the sprints will mainly come from local Renshaw, Matthews and Ventoso. Vacansoleil has a strong 1-2 punch for the overal with Poels and Westra. Velits, Martin, Kolobnev or local star Lloyd could also go home with the win.

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 1

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm10_zpsf886b177.jpg

The first stage is flat and should be for the sprinters. We will try to place Bouhanni in the right postion so he can fight it out with the likes of Ventoso, Schulze, Markus and Matthews.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm5_zps295ac5ff.jpg

A break of 5 established itself quite early. Their names are Gusev (Katusha), Dall'Antonia (Cannondale), Van Leijen (Lotto), Boaro (Saxo) and Curvers (Argos). Decent riders but none a threat.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm6_zpsc67cf024.jpg

Mainly Vacansoleil with some help from Movistar, Sky and Lampre rode at the front of the peloton today. Especially Van Poppel (Vacansoleil) took a lot of turns. We ordered Pichon to relay aswell.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm7_zps7361620b.jpg

The break got caught before the 10 km to go banner. A lot of Euskaltel and Movistar at the front as the two Spanish teams were forming leadout trains. Bouhanni jumped into Ventoso's wheel.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm8_zps0897cbfc.jpg

But the two leadout trains were blown away. They are about halfway the peloton. It looks like they took a roundabout at the wrong side. So under the kite, Mondory is leading with Sabatini next to him.

i1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa477/Spilak23/pcm9_zpsed9f21cd.jpg

Matthews jumped past and took a clear victory. The sprint for the two other podium places was much closer. In the end, Kwiatkowski takes 2nd and Favili 3rd. Markus, Ventoso and Bouhanni in that order finish 65th, 66th and 67th.
