Hi. I have PCM 2012 installed on my laptop (Windows 8 with Excel 2010). When I export results at the end of a race the file is saved by the game as an excel 2003 spreadsheet (xls). Usually I can go to the exported file results and open the spreadsheet but twice yesterday it wouldn't let me open the spreadsheet . I get the message that 'the file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Do you want to open the file now.' When I clicked yes it told me it couldn't open the file due to a worksheet setting.
Is this because I have Excel 2010 which creates xlsx files or is it something else altogether.
Can anyone offer help please

I have Office 2010 as well and get the same message, but has no trouble opening when I press "yes"., so it's not because of that

Thank you. I also get the message every time and when I click yes it opens fine. However, its twice refused to open so I have lost my results which is very frustrating.

You can try changing the file extension from .xls to .xml. If that doesn't work, you can always open the file with an editor, such as Notepad++. If the file is not correctly formatted Excel will crash but Notepad++ will open it.

Ok, I will try notepad. Really not sure how to change the file format as it doesn't give me an option to 'save as'. Will try and work it out, thanks |

You don't have to change the file format, you just have to rename the file extension.
Reason: The file already is an xml file, it is just called .xls so that excel opens, when you double click it. |

OK. Tried Notepad, didn't work. The file extension is xls but when I double click it excel won't open it. It says their is a problem with a worksheet setting. I am using Excel 2010 and as I said, until the other day it worked fine but again today its refusing to open the worksheet |

Did you rename the file already? Assuming that the file is called stage1.xls, you have to rename it to stage1.xlm.
If you don't see the file extension, then you can activate it in the explorer settings, ask google if you don't know how to do it.
After you have renamed the file, start excel and go to the menu "data", then click from other sources, then select xml.
Or you just double click the renamed file, this should open it in your browser.
If that does not look good, then you could download an xml-viewer. |

Sorry but nothing seems to be working. I have, however, discovered that if I export a race where I use the teams provided by the database for the race, then the spreadsheet opens fine. But, if I select the random selection of teams for the race, then the excel file won't open. Also, if I select a custom list for the race then the exported excel file won't open.
Any further thoughts, please. |
