How to "Group" your Riders
breezer
Hey there guys.

I know many of you, when doing career planning, are grouping your riders.

Like:
GC
Sprinter
Helper
etc..

But how many of each should be in GT/WT Races(i know it depends on the race profiles etc), and what defines helper..

I am thinking like this:

If group of 8(9):
1 GC
1 Main sprinter
2 sprint helper (for lead-out, if your going for sprint jersey etc).
5 GC helpers (Mix of Mountain/Hill/Flat/DH riders to help your GC).

Does that seems okay?

And about the planning.
Are you guys going for the same group all over the season then.
Like: group 1 does X y Z races
Group 2 A B C races?

I guess everybody does it differently, I group them around a leader.
So for example I might have 2 GC leaders, 2 sprint leaders and one or two leaders for the hilly and/or cobbles classics. I then assign helpers to each of them considering the obvious stats: Mountain+Hilly for GC, Flat and Sprint for sprint. Then I have a bunch of ungrouped riders which I assign during the season planning.
Like this I can mix the groups, for example ride Giro with Nibali and Greipel, the TdF with Contador and Cavendish and the Vuelta with Contador and Greipel. (This is NOT my team, I just used some names.)

Thx for the input Lachi..
And yeah, it make sense the way you do it.
Guess its the kinda orbvious or "optimal" way so to speak Smile

There's no way right or wrong way really.

Some teams dont have a sprinter good enough for a GT so with Euskaltel for example i juts build a team for Sanchez or Anton and maybe include a couple who might win a stage

Then again if it was a flat race i would just pick the best fighters

With my custom team I've put the few cobble riders I have (Boom, Van Avermaet and Maaskant) together for the early season, and then grouped some riders for mid-July through to late August. But I don't have a set scheme for aeach race saying I need 1 sprinter,2 leadout men etc.
