Is there possible to download ONLY the variants from the expansion pack and use them in another database?

Yes, it's possible to use them in another database, but it's not possible to download only the variants.

Install it to an empty folder, then copy only the variant stages from CM_stages to your game CM_stages folder. (I think all the variant stages start with "top_", since we only add variants for the WT races).
