Why can't I sprint?

Has anyone else playing the PS3 version come across this problem? When I go to sprint at the end of a race, my rider ( with full red bar ) does a sort of sprint/sit down/sprint repetition rather than a full on sprint.

I think it's a bug. I'm not sure if it actually affects your speed, it just looks a bit silly.
