Tour de Maroc Stage 1
mb2612
Top  #1 Print Post

Stage 1 is as flat as it gets, Thorsen, Awang and Haddou are favourites. The key question is who gets in the break.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc050.jpg

We also have News on the Wild Cards, The 7 spots for the Tour of Swaziland will go to the 3 best placed in the GC, as well as the winners of the 3 other jerseys and 1 nominated rider from the best team.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc001.jpg

Alstrom are trying to control the early attacks.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc003.jpg

Every team either has a rider up the road or chasing. The 18 up front have 50 seconds but are not being allowed away
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc004.jpg

Most of the break are pulled back, although 5 riders are still clear
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc005.jpg

More attacks as no one wants to miss out
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc006.jpg

17 riders are clear again, but the bunch is still flat out.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc007.jpg

And we are all together again
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc008.jpg

Bodnar manages to get clear solo
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc009.jpg

With 90km to go Bodnar has 2 minutes, and Rossi and Gonzalez attack
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc010.jpg

The three come together
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc011.jpg

40km to go, the gap is 3 minutes and Sarkisov tries to get clear
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc012.jpg

23km to go and he is back, the gap is 1'32" but it's a downhill run in so they could hang on.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc013.jpg

Sarkisov attacks again
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc014.jpg

He lasts until 15km to go, now the break are just 40 seconds ahead
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc015.jpg

Bodnar attacks his companions
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc016.jpg

10km to go and he has 25" on the bunch
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc017.jpg

Alstrom pull him back, behind Haddou is Thorsen, then Bongiorno, Korkotyan and Seidler.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc018.jpg

2.7km to go and Seidler's dropped back. Behind Korkotyan is now: Tuulhangai, Friedman, Horst, Castillo, Siedler, Klimov, Sohrabi, Gardeyn and Gerard. It's a long chain
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc019.jpg

Bacquet starts the sprint
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc020.jpg

Horst makes his move from behind
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc021.jpg

Now Bongiorno and Korkotyan try to pass the leaders
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc022.jpg

Haddou is still waiting as Bongirno and Thorsen come at him
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc023.jpg

Thorsen, Friedman and Haddou try and sqeeze through the same spot, Bongiorno has the lead.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc024.jpg

Thorsen is coming
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc025.jpg

And Thorsen sneaks the win
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc027.jpg

Haddou gets second, Boniorno fades to third, Friedman and Korkotyan are next.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc028.jpg

There seems to be a split in the bunch as well
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Moroc/Maroc029.jpg

Everyone gets the same time, so Thorsen gets everything today, and Awang takes the white jersey. All of Alstom's work does put them in the lead of the team competition though.
