We start the first of the flat stages, and Kennaugh, Serebriakov and CIolek are favourites
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland038.jpg
4 men are in the break today: Goesinnen, Veikkanen, Engoulvent and Agostini
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland039.jpg

Van Kleinsorgen and local favourite Scully join them
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland040.jpg

Veikkanen beats Van Kleinsorgen and Engoulvent to the sprint
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland041.jpg

Agostini beats Van Kleinsorgen to the climb, Scully is third
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland042.jpg

Van Kleinsorgen finally wins one, Goesinnen is second ahead of Veikkanen
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland043.jpg

Climb 2 and Van Kleinsorgen now beats Goesinnen and Agostini to take the mountains jersey
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland044.jpg

It's not all good news for Rapha as Rowsell abandons
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland045.jpg

This causes the peloton, after having the break in hand all day, to let them away and they have 90 seconds with 11km to go.

Laidler and Kilun decide to attack.

Rapha are fine with this, and after yesterday everyone else seems to have given up
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland046.jpg

Laidler leaves Kilun behind, and as he closes in on the break Veikkanen attacks
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland047.jpg

Veikkanen has a decent gap with 5km to go.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland048.jpg

2500m to ride and Van Kleinsorgen has pretty much pulled Veikkanen back
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland049.jpg

Engoulvent goes immediately in the sprint, Goesinnen and Laidler are following him
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland050.jpg

Laidler makes his move
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland051.jpg

it's him versus Goesinnen
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland052.jpg

And the Dutchman wins, much to the delight of the home fans for whom Trans-Tasman rivalry trumps all else. Laidler is second with Engoulvent third
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland053.jpg

Scully and Agostini are next
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland054.jpg

Kilun comes in at +50"
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland055.jpg

Serebriakov wins the bunch sprint at 1'21". Rapha must be worried about the bonus seconds if they are happy to let the break stay away, while veryone else reckons that Kennaugh is the quickest sprinter, so Rapha should pull back the break.
i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m584/mb261289/Southland/Southland056.jpg

It irritates me that the clock on the stage is so often wrong as the gap is actually 1'14" but that is enough to put Agostini 3rd.
