I know this question may sound stupid but how do you get the background of a sponsor logo to become clear and not white anymore?Sad

Double click the layer. Then there should be a menu with mode -> normal.
Change it to multiply.

Only works with black and white logos, though? At least in Photoshop yes. If it's the case of a coloured logo, then I don't know exactly what tools you need to use in Paint.net, but in Photoshop you could use the Magic Wand to delete the white/select just what you want of the logo (probably there's a similar tool in Paint.net).

I am not sure about paint.net but in GIMP you right click on the layer on the layer box and the click alpha to selection. And the right click on the image and layer>transparency>colour to alpha and then enter (as long as white is selected in the pop up window)

That works for coloured images as well as black and white. It will remove white everywhere though, but if select the transparent stuff and you use a small brush you can fill in the logo.
