Is it possible to make random changes of variant races?

i have retired the section with the defined race by year and kept in rules file:
<rules>
<!-- Date de changement de parcours-->
<rule month="1" year="-1"/>
</rules>

also i noticed xml files names in variant folder are not like stages names in CM_Stages:
in variant file names like "France - Grand Tour_02.descr.xml"
in CM_Stages names like "2008_top_tdf_14_roturn.zces"
is it a problem?

Yes, it is possible to have random variants (happens with the worlds in the daily DB, for example) and no, the different names aren't a problem.

To create a random variant, you just need to have different 'variant min' and 'variant max'. For example:

<rules>
<!-- Date de changement de parcours-->
<rule month="1" year="-1"/>

<!-- Parcours prédeterminé certaines années -->
<defined year="2012" variantMin="2" variantMax="9"/>
<defined year="2013" variantMin="1" variantMax="9"/>
<defined year="2014" variantMin="1" variantMax="9"/>
<defined year="2015" variantMin="1" variantMax="9"/>
<defined year="2016" variantMin="1" variantMax="9"/>

The problem of this is the chance of you having the same variant. But then, you can do something like on 2012 variant min and max are 2 and 5, and on 2013 they are 6 and 9, so at least you wouldn't have the same variant in two consecutive years. (btw the file I got this from is the worlds, that's why it has lots of variants).

As for the different names, no problem. The "France - Grand Tour_02.descr.xml" has the description of every stage of that variant of the TdF - including the "2008_top_tdf_14_roturn.zces" you saw in CM_stages. If you open the "France - Grand Tour_02" file you'll see the description of each stage.

Finally, I don't think the way you edited the variant files to have random variants will work.. maybe the game is gonna crash, but just testing can answer that.
