We are here at the Tour Meditteraneen for the first stage of what is expected to be an exciting week of racing. The favourites for today are the sprinters: Corioni, Gavzzi and Hushovd, but expect havoc caused by the final hill which is just 6km from the finish line
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med006.jpg

6 riders get away: Vogt, Rabou, Reis, Teklit, Novak and Van den Eynde
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med008.jpg

Koppert have no real leader for the tour, as such missing the break isn't really an option. Kamyshev hence crosses the gap solo
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med009.jpg

Venchi are doing all the work today
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med011.jpg

The sprinters teams aren't messing around, and with 25km to go they already have the break back in their clutches
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med013.jpg

10km to go and Saab have taken control with all 7 men forming a leadout chain
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med014.jpg

They keep the pace high and over the top it's a Saab 1-2-3, Eltink, Lindgren and Wyss leading the way
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med015.jpg

Saab are swarming at the front now, while Trusov and Corioni are on Hushovd's wheel
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med016.jpg

Further back Kolobnev has fallen
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med017.jpg

3km to go and Saab are still there, After Trusov comes Cucinotta, Gavazzi and Biondo
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med018.jpg

Wyss drops back, blocking those in Hushovd's wheel
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med019.jpg

so with 2km to go Corioni and Trusov have to close the gap, Aistup is sprinting hard at the front
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med020.jpg

Hushovd goes past as the challenge comes from behind
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med021.jpg

Bellis is easily the fastest, he blows past everyone else, 900m to go, Hushovd is in his sights
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med022.jpg

As the line gets ever closer so does Bellis
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med023.jpg

But Hushovd hangs on for victory, Bellis' 12 bonus seconds could be very useful though
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/Med%202012/med024.jpg

Smukulis, Langeveld and Trusov are next, while Kolobnev looses over 3 minutes
