Welcome to Australia, for the last stage race of the season. After that, two classics left. One in the PT and one in the Continental division. After that, the national championships, and it's over for the current season!
Flat, flat, flat, mountain, mountain, flat TT and flat. Not much variation, but nonetheless, it will surely turn out to be an exiting race! The decision for the race will probably fall in the second mountain stage, where we end on top of a national park, Otway Ranges.
So, what riders do we have here? For the sprints we have; Greipel, Richeze, Guerao, Impey and Sutton. Although, this race has 5 flat stages, it won't be one of them winning the GC. That would be a climber, and we have quite a few here. Top favorite is Jose Alarcon, and it's unlikely he won't win the race if he stays on his bike. His main competition should come from last year's winner Cadel Evans, Francisco Perez Sanchez and Manuel Lloret.
Predictions:
| 1. | Jose Alarcon | | 2. | Manuel Lloret | | 3. | Cadel Evans | | 4. | Francisco Perez Sanchez | | 5. | Sergio Paulinho |
Alarcon is the top favorite here, if you see what he has achieved this season. Home rider Evans will likely do good, as is Lloret who has already showed good performances this season. On paper, Perez Sanchez is the strongest rider behind Alarcon, but he hasn't really delivered big this season. Paulinho is an outside wildcard.

Santander really needed a stronger lineup than that here, GC wise

yep, my leaders didn't quite have enough days to cover this and Beuce, leading to them being raced by back up riders.
I knew my season was done when Lopez Garcia messed up Mexico

Augustyn will have to do something on the mountains as he is limited against the clock compared to those ahead of him. The pressure will be on Alarcon to get away from Perez Sanchez who is well capable as we saw in Austria vs Serpa of upsetting a better climber.
mb: I noticed Santander were woefully short of quality at the Ringerinke GP too.. should be interesting to see how the sub prime riders go though.
I think Sutton has a fair chance of a sprint win if Beppu is set as his leadout.

Well my team are usually pretty good at switching their support to the next best rider.
Adam Hansen clung on well in the Tour of Japan and has been very good in the late season really. So he obviously is no match for Alarcon but hoping he he can cling on in the mountains.
Big issues for UBS today though - mucked up possibly stage win and what an earth was Perez Sanchez doing at the back of the peleton. Is there a chance for others to take advantage?
Lets remember by the way that Alarcon lost the two malaysia races by crashing on the last day - who knows it could happen again!

I think Stage 1 has history too - and it might have been Alarcon who lost time there last year. Albeit IKEA did send both Taaramae and Larsson to the race that time aswell. (And actually they all lost time, even if only 1 minute rather than 2)
And yes, Perez Sanchez dropping down. Garate/Ortega, I forget how good they are now, but if they could manage something good for Santander in the mountain stages - maybe all hope is not lost, UBS were the biggest threat to the Spaniards afterall
I see Maurico Ortega made the cut - the Corsica International winner. And Van der Velde did well in Japan - potential podium candidates now then

they are my 4th and 6th best climbers, 73 and 72.
I won't deny it's gone well, especially with UBS messing up, although with Pokerstars doing well in Faso, it would have been nice if Gonzalo or Valls had snuck in rather than the non-sprinting Guerao

Yeh, Valls being in there would have been much better, given how he went in Mexico

Tbh, I´m not real threat for you, there is a gap of 270pts between us Anyway I don´t complain seeing UBS in this "shape". Very thrilling finish of my first season in Man-Game for me

Nice to see Bbox doing well!
And once again IKEA got a man in the move, how do they do it? Race already shaping up to be very interesting, at least until Alarcon dominates ...

Couldn't agree more!
This is my strongest line-up since Le Tour!
Greipel 3rd stage 1.
Pineau 1st stage 2.
Is this a Bbox race? Probably not, seeing as the team does good when I don't have Internet access. (School project for three days in the mountains)

I love it when a plan comes together! Gunning for that points jersey now, move over Impey.
The mountains then, will be very interesting to see how teams play it as SN said Petronas have two podium shouts but you have to feel the places behind Alarcon are open.

The key point will be, will the guys who lost ground on Stage 1 attack - or will lesser teammates of theirs who did not lose time, try to attack instead
