We've entered the last month of the season and only 3 races left in the PT. This is the first of them. A very demanding race in Russia made for the puncheurs.
With 264 km and 10 hills this is certainly not a race for the weak. This race was one of the possible candidates for the World Championship last year, so it's a course were only the best will be able to win!
We have a strong startlist here, so anyone who though of getting some easy points was wrong. Top favorite is Frank Schleck, especially after his win in Badaling were he was stronger then a lot of other puncheurs, including Cunego. Although that same Cunego, destroyed the field in Asturias just a few days later. Other big favorite is Yuri Trofimov, he's had an amazing year so far and he is riding in his home country, so that must give an enormous boost. Other outsiders are Hagen and Ulissi or maybe fresh World Champion Van Garderen?

Trofimov, Cunego and Schleck are the top favorites for me. Behind them it's more open, so it's hard to predict. Even wildcard Efimkin might have a good shot at a top 10.

I could have, but Schleck got away further and further instead of the others getting closer. Could have put one more in between though, but wouldn't have really mattered in this case.

Trofimov a big letdown there - but then again perhaps now Sonyt have the team rankings surely in the bag a chance to let someone else be individual number one.
A third individual win for Frankie - though he will be hard pressed surely to beat Cunego at Lombardy.

Thats exactly what I wanted! Great result for us in terms of 5th place in the team standings, with Van Garderen some way back - Wikipedia will undoubtedly catch up again with Herbiers, but the advantage swings back to me with Lombardia.

That wasn't bad in this big competition. 7th place is good, although with national bonus. Well done, Alex, maybe we will be back next season.

Yuri Trofimov will have expected so much coming into his home race, in form after the Worlds. But it didnt happen for him, and its a major blow for his individual standing hopes - Damiano Cunego is now the strong favourite with a 100+ point lead and Lombardia to come. Frank Schleck's win puts him in 6th, with still a chance of 5th - although he would need to win Lombardia with Valverde, returning to action, outside of the Top 8. Boasson Hagen meanwhile, looks set to end the season in the Top 10, going into 9th ahead of teammate Pluchkin.
S Sanchez is up to 18th while Bakelandts breaks into the Top 20 - LL Sanchez, Nibali, Castano and Van Garderen all loitering outside of the Top 20, but inside the Top 30.

Teams wise its looking very good for Sony Ericsson, who should break the 8000-point mark by the seasons end. La Gazzetta are also looking good in 2nd - but Pearl Adidas have done well to maintain the pressure. Festina only lose 11 to Pearl here, but are running out of opportunities if they are to take 3rd overall.
Vesuvio meanwhile took a strong step to securing 5th, securing a 400 point advantage over Wikipedia - nice to have ahead of the team likely to score a lot in the upcoming Chrono des Herbiers. B&O meanwhile are up to 7th - not actually too far behind Wikipedia - as Auber slip to 8th.
The battle for the final 2 spots in the Top 10 remains tight, just over 100 points separating 4 teams. Domina did best of the 4 here, and Lipton also picked up ground, as Jack Wolfskin and Warner Brothers did little.
No changes in the 4 way battle for 13th, as Philips lead the way over Carmeuse, Colombia and Nespresso. Energie did gain 70 points on Nespresso here, but it does seem a case of too little, too late, and Energie may have to start facing up to relegation, and downsizing the team in preperation of bouncing back next year.

I don't have any great TTers and Bakelants is my hope for Lombardia. La Gazzetta have Rogers and Cunego. I think the Top-2 are pretty much guaranteed to stay in their current place.
If we're able to hold off Festina it will be an great season, way better than I'd expected.

Oh, it's going to be very close for the top 10 there. But I should do better than my rivals in Herbiers and Lombardia shouldn't be too bad either, with Gesink leading the team.

Can I hold onto 7th place it's been a succesful season improving on the last one and with Guldhammer getting stronger next season Top 5 could be possible.
