Tour of Ireland Stage 4

A couple of vicious hills towards the end mean this could end the GC hope of our 3 premier sprinters, they are still given the favourites tag, but should the peleton hit the hills at pace I wouldn't bet against local darlings Roche or Martin trying something
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0004.jpg

It's a misserable day, with driving rain, yet the peleton gets underway perfectly on schedule
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0095.jpg

Guillen, Forero and Brown go through the sprint, as still no one who can benifit from the bonus second even tries
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0096.jpg

Veilleux, Gavazzi and Van Heerden attack, and as all 3 are tied for the lead of the mountains jersey, the 3 slimbs will be hotly contested today
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0097.jpg

Veilleux gets the jump on his compaions to take climb one, Van Heerden just sneaking second
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0098.jpg

These 3 are evenly matched so it really will be who is tactically best and at climb 2 Van Heerden wins, Veilleux second and Gavazzi 3rd, meaning Gavazzi is now 3 points behind the other 2 riders

Gavazzi wins the final climb, but it's Van Heerden who will be happiest, his second place giving him the jersey
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0099.jpg

Through the sprint it's Veilleux ahead of Gavazzi and Van Heerden, the break has 1'48" with 32km to go
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0100.jpg

We are back together as the peleton hits the first climb
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0101.jpg

climb 2 is with 13km to go and the peleton is still together
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0102.jpg

This causes a split as with 10km to race 20 riders go clear: the yellow and green jerseys are clearly visible
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0103.jpg

The white jersey isn't and 100% Me storm forwards to try and pull this back
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0105.jpg

The final climb, with 6km to go puts everyone together
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0106.jpg

In fact, over the other side Gaywood has pulled Swift into an excellent position
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0107.jpg

3km to go and another split appears
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0108.jpg

Up front Chtioui is leading, the sprinters are no where
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0109.jpg

1km to go and Swift is trying to fight his way through traffic
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0110.jpg

500m to go and he and Casper have moved into podium spots, however Chtioui isn't home and dry
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0111.jpg

with the line closing can Chtioui hold on?
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0112.jpg

Swift takes the stage, moving himself back into the leaders jersey
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0113.jpg

Casper and Chicci also sneak past Chtioui, while Wyss takes 5th
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0114.jpg

Goss comes in at the very back of the peleton, he will be hoping there are no time gaps
i1184.photobucket.com/albums/z334/mb1226/eire/PCM0115.jpg

Brandle, who has held 4th since the first stage loses time here and will drop out of the top 20
