Here we go then, the only mountain stage in this division. These guys are unlikely to be right up there in Avenir, so this is there chance. The top 3 favourites are Gilannipoor, Munro, and Belohoubek. Also of note are Van Epoel, Costa, Hubert, Boivin and Vysna - then not forgetting Anguillet, Moussa, Tieri, Landa, Fedorov, Tenzon, Sgrigna and Khalilkhosroshani

And a 14 man breakaway: Poisson, Keukeleire, Mathiesen, Arndt, Cronshaw, Papok, Rodomonti, Nystrand, Vicelich, Goodfellow, Jungels, Kashimov, Brown and Schaffer. Nystrand takes the intermediate sprint from Schaffer and Cronshaw.

Schaffer, the KoM winner in the Sachsen Tour, attacks to take the KoM - but he wont be getting the jersey here unless the unlikely happens and the breakaway succeeds, and he wins.

With 26km to go, Moussa and Gmelich attack the peloton and reduce the gap from 3 and a half minutes to 2 and a half minutes and we are onto the climb

3rd overall Guardiola Tora attacks. Batchelor, Cerveira and Fedorov respond

Vicelich attacks the breakaway, but Schaffer responds and goes further

The Aussie drags himself back up, only to be dropped again - meanwhile the peloton have caught the 5 newer attackers

As the remnants of the break start to split, we get more attacks. Van Epoel, Belohoubek, Tenzon, Sgrigna, Fedorov, Anguillet and Eijssen

Cerveira and Munro also attack and the net effect is simply bringing almost everyone back to the peleton. Now only Schaffer remains, and could the unlikely happen? Leading by 1 minute 27 with 5km to go.

Munro, Boivin, Van Epoel and Cerveira also attack - the finally Vesuvio's Italian Tenzon, and also Costa. And Schaffer is caught by Sgrigna, Anguillet, Belohoubek and Fedorov!
