Bayern Rundfahrt Stage 1
mb2612
Top  #1 Print Post
Posted on 25-11-2010 16:52
Welcome to Bayern Rudfardt this 5 day jolt around Germany, the time trial in this race makes Ignatiev massive favourite, as always, but lets not get ahead of ourselves as first up is a sprint stage

Well I say that, but have just been informed that the betting houses have set Ignatiev favourite for this stage, based on the slightly up hill nature of the finish, although as the expect Smukulis and Maaskant to fight it out with him, I'm not sure anyone knows what to expect
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0001.jpg

Anyway, off we go on this Beautiful day
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0002.jpg

At the first sprint a break of 4 has established itself, Wei, Hoffman, Ribeiro and Fuchs is the order they cross the line
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0003.jpg

Gudsell tried to go with them but seems set for a long day in no-mans land as the hills are making him lose ground

Hoffman leads Fuchs and Wei over the first climb
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0005.jpg

Hoffman wins the second climb as well to take the KoM jersey for tomorrow
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0006.jpg

Fuchs beats Hoffman and Wei to the second sprint
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0007.jpg

There is never any danger from the break, as they are pulled back with 25km to go, although what could mess things up is the final intermediate sprint with just 8km remaining
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0008.jpg

This sprint is on the same hill as the finishing straight so we get to see how tough it actually is as Bozic, Kip, Nazon and Van Loocke hit the front
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0009.jpg

Bozic takes it over Kip and Guarnieri, however what has this done to the peleton
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0010.jpg

15 riders go clear, as Wiggle desperately try to take back control
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0011.jpg

Hampton doesn't seem to have the legs to pull it back, and Bozic is pushing on at the front
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0012.jpg

Sensing the danger Tinkoff take over, however they have almost definately missed the stage win, this is all about controlling their losses
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0013.jpg

5km to go and Bacardi and Pokerstars are reforming their trains, while Bozic seems to be tiring
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0014.jpg

Sobal is putting a massive effort in on the front of the peleton and has brought the gap back down to 30 seconds
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0015.jpg

Up front Bacardi has taken control with Gajek in the box seat
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0016.jpg

500m later and it's all change as Nazon is fading and Pokerstars move forwards
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0017.jpg

Bimbo have taken up the charge behind, the gap is now 25 seconds
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0018.jpg

3km to go and Degenkolb has pulled clear of the rest, Van Loocke must win from here
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0019.jpg

As the sprint starts Sijmens is just about begining to close the gap
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0020.jpg

Bozic moves alongside him, while Kip is also closing, Van Loocke seems scared to move out into the wind
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0021.jpg

And with 1.7km to go Degenkolb's epic lead out has been wasted as Bozic is storming past
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0022.jpg

With Kip going past as well Van Loocke makes his move, much, much to late
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0023.jpg

1km to go and Bozic is starting to fade, Kip is coming at him
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0025.jpg

As we hit the steepest part of the climb Kip takes the lead, Van Loocke is starting to make up for lost ground though
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0026.jpg

Kip takes victory, while Van Loocke recovers from his tactical error to sneak 2nd ahead of Bozic
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0027.jpg

The peleton pulled back the break, so the leadout men stopped sprinting in an effort to create some sort of gap, the question is whether 18 seconds is enough for the commissars
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0028.jpg
It's not

So Kip takes the victory and the lead, although the hills tomorrow will surely be too hard for him
