breakaway fun, in a bastille day sun?

Live streams:

HTC-Columbia Google Maps rider tracker:

fun facts: This town was where the Armstrong did his off road thing in 2003, this area is apparently a "climbers paradise" (their words) with 5km of cliffs.

This stage screams breakaway. And the favourites will want to have a breather after today. |

A break of 34 will go Le Mevel, Moreau, Voeckler etc, with Armstrong. |

Agreed. I can see him trying for the first sprint point though.
The Cote de Laffrey will get rid of all the sprinters, the col du Noyer will make sure they won't come back.

This stage has his name all over it imo.

Being the French champion, I have no doubts he'll try. |

It'll be Mayhem at the start, with all the French trying to break away, and all the foreigners trying to get in the good break with the French. It'll probably be a very fast stage until the break of the day is gone, then it'll be rest for all the other ones. Hushovd's best possibility is to sprint for a 10th place or so, 20 minutes after the breakaway has arrived.

This stage has his name all over it imo.
Your right some simple math too, just add the climbs divide the distance and multiply the nation that the race takes place in and you've got Voeckler. |

I was actually thinking the same of Fedrigo, but seeing it's the national holiday, Bbox might opt for Voeckler.

I'd be surprised to see Moreau on the attack again.
Chavannel (sp?) maybe? |

Lets hope no one pulls a repeat of the descent of the Noyer in '03. My guess is a breakaway (primarily French) winning, w/ a Voeckler or Dumoulin type taking the victory.
EDIT: Also my birthday tomorrow, so hoping for a great stage as a present.

They didn't ride Noyer in 2003. |

Many will probably attack, then it's just a matter of luck and/or timing to get in the breakaway of the day. "Be at the right place at the right moment".
You can't say it'll be X from that team or Y from that other team who will escape tomorrow. Those who have the legs and aim for nothing but stage wins will try to go if it's not too late (or even if it's too late ), and will manage to remain ahead for a while (or till the end) or not, that's how it works. |
