Tour/Giro question
Montolivo
Since i am quite new cycling i wanted to ask you what Giro/Tour do you remember the most exciting and what is your personal favourite?
And do you recommend any stages to watch from the past decades?

Well, the Tour is much more controlled, so the racing tends to be a lot less exciting.

The thing about the Tour tends to be "it's the Tour!", so if that gets you excited, great, but if (like me), that doesn't, then it's going to be the part of the season you'll look forward to less.

The Giro, on the other hand, tends to be the most agressive and unpredictable racing around, on a level with the Classics, País Vasco, Suisse and CI.

On the other hand, there's one thing I prefer about the Tour: the mountain stages that aren't boring tend to be long slogs where riders get dropped one by one instead of attacking and counter-attacking like the Giro. I personally prefer that about the Tour.

So, it depends on what you prefer.

As for the best ones, most 90s Giros fit the bill, especially 1996.
A for the Tour: 2003 and 1990 or 1989.

Thanks alot for the answer, isso! Smile

I have always watched the tour even as a 12 year old boy.
The first race apart from the Tour i watched in my life was the giro this year, and i think this years giro is the best grand tour i have watched apart from the dramatic TdF 2003.

Haven't been following cycling for long, but this year's Giro was certainly the most exciting I've seen

Not sure what Tours I prefer, but of the Giro's I've followed, this years takes the prize. The 2007 one where Andy Schleck had his breakthrough was nice, too, and as a Swede I would be remiss not to mention the first half of last years, when Löfkvist wore pink and white. Smile

This year's Giro was excellent, but the 1989 Tour takes home the prize for me.
