With the classic spring openers, Paris - Nice and Tirreno - Adriatico, plus the new comer, Volta a Catalunya finished, it's time for the first classic of the season, Milano - SanRemo.
In the recent history, Filippo Pozzato had won the race twice, including last year's edition. His first win came in 2007, Samuel Sanchez won the race in 2008, while Franco Pellizotti was the winner of the La Primavera in 2009.
But this year Pozzato won't be able to defend his title as he is now riding for a Continental Team, which hasn't received an wildcard to be able to compete. From the recent winners, only Samuel Sanchez will start the race this year, Pellizotti also riding for a Continental Team, which hasn't been invited.
As always the main question if we will see a sprint in San Remo, or someone will be able to make a decisive attack either on Cipressa or Poggio and get away from the others to avoid the mass sprint.
If it's going to be a sprint, La Gazzeta's sprinter, Daniele Bennati is definitely the man to follow after the great series of wins he had last year. Still there are some other sprinters that could pass really well the final climbs of the race and post a real threat for Bennati, such as Bewley, Van Stayen, Steegmans, Jukka Vastaranta, Oscar Freire and many others.
From those that are looking to take the race on their own with an attack on one of the final 2 climbs, Ballan is looking to be the main rider to follow Saturday, with a very nice combination of flat, hills and sprint abilities. But there are some other good puncheurs in this race that might try their chance with attack on the final hills such as Schleck, Ullisi, Rodriguez Oliver, Samuel Sanchez, Hagen, Igvatiev, Di Luca, Nibali, Van Garderen, Ginanni, Bakelants, Spilak, Burghardt and some other riders that wouldn't have too many chances in a mass sprint.
Riders to follow:
| ***** | Daniele Bennati | | **** | Alessandro Ballan, Sam Bewley, Mikhail Ignetiev | | *** | Geert Steegmans, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Michael Van Stayen | | ** | Frank Schleck, Diego Ullisi, Francesco Ginanni, Jan Bakelants, Van Garderen | | * | Oscar Freire, Jukka Vastaranta, Joaquim Rodriguez, Samuel Sanchez, Simon Spilak |

Would be really nice if Ballan can perform here. But every result is possible here, he can win or he can be 50th. I'll just cross my fingers.

Have a feeling Ballan is gonna take this.
For me, hopefully the team will be riding for Hagen and not Vanoverschelde, eventhough he would be my ace in a mass sprint, eventhough Hagen at the end of race like this can match the fastest. Hopefully they'll make up for a slightly dissapointing month.

The classics are definitely not going to be our best races this season but I was still hoping for something better than 28th and 29th...

Nice 4-6 for Wiggle. And most of the team in the front group. Enough already! Pro Tour please!

Excellent from Sony. Good job from Wiggle. Pleased enough by Vespa's showing. About what I expected from Cafe de Colombia.
MSR has a habit of playing out that way in single player too. |

The first good result of the season is also the first goal missed. Our goal was to win the race, but we cannot be unhappy with 2nd and 11th from my two young riders. Well done!

Okay, that Ballan could win wasn't too unlikely but Anza third is a nice suprise. Everything seem to go my way right now. Sweet.
