Like the title says, i keep getting random crashes during races. Sometimes even while loading for a race. In my last save game my game kept crashing in a normal flat stage of the Tour of California, it had crashed a few times before in other races to, but that passed away. But it kept crashing in that stage, not at the same time, but in that stage.
Now i've started a new carreer, custom team. But i have the same problem again. The Tour of California is my first race. No problems in stage 1. Crash during the loading of stage 2. 1 crash halfway stage 2. And now my game keeps crashing during stage three on the last hill or wright before the finish line. Mostly near the end.
Already reinstalled my game. Didnt help. It isnt my computer either, seeing i can run much heavier games on highest quality. Im using the PCM.daily's 2009 DB (Final) with my own custom team and a few stat changes.

Lowering the graphic settings will generally get rid of those kind of crashes.
Game is notorious for its memory management. |

Which is why I am 99.9% sure the game is written in C++ |

are you kidding me?
no way the game wasn't written with an object oriented programming language, hell cyanide ain't that stupid
I'm currently learning ruby, and its by far the nicest and prettiest language I've been exposed to (Perl, Java, C++, Basic, and LOGO being the rest). I've had to put a man-game stat development project on the back-burner while doing school work (I'm learning it in a computer science class), which is currently a text based adventure game. |

Got trough the stage without a crash.
Doesnt make sence to me. I can run games like Crysis, Modern Warfare 2, hell even World of Warcraft on highest settings without any lag what so ever, or without any fps loss. And still i have to play PCM on lowest settings <.<
Hope it goes well for the rest of the game.

I've noted that I think the game is written in C++. C++, unlike most other "modern" programming languages, does not control memory leakage. So basically, if you write something that accidently causes the computer to keep dumping more and more memory into the program, other programming languages will catch it and stop the program. C++ doesn't, and it will instead allow the computer to keep pouring in more memory until it errors (think Windows BSOD). The upside of this is that if you handle the memory control well in C++, you can make it more efficient than the ones that Java, Ruby, etc., have built in. The downside is that if you don't control it well, you have dramatically reduced performance if you can get the program to sustain itself at all. I once wrote a 3D first person shooter in C++ (using OpenGL for you computer types), and the memory control leakage problem nearly killed the project, it got that bad at points. I'm not 100% PCM is written in C++, but considering it is the preferred video game language, and because of a lot of the issues with it, I would not be surprised.
Hopefully you could follow that. It's getting into the evening, so I'm beginning to rant.

I remember someone posting a program that could 'empty' unused RAM (or something like that), which was especially good when playing PCM. You'd have to do some searching on PCM.daily or downloads.com, though. |
