hey guys, due to the fact that my brother has just invested in a wireless internet conection and so will no longer be hogging our main computer all day everyday i have decided that it is finally worthwhile getting the new PCM as now i might actually get to play it.
however, having heard that 09 is practically the same as 08 with major changes expected for 2010 i was just wondering if it was worth the investment or if i should stick to my 09 database for my 08 game and wait for the next one?
what new features does the new game have that will make it a worthhile purchase? is the game play more realistic or does everyone still attack as soon as they hit the foot of the last mountain of the day? are there still as many bugs and glitches (my 09 database seems to be riddled with them)? is there a good real name database available?
so what does everyone think?
cheers |

I am sure this has already been discussed, did you try the search? |

Personally I prefer the 09, it seems to have more realistic results, especially on hilly stages where it is possible to chase riders down once they attack and you actually get sprints of 50 or so riders, also even on the mountain stages in places like quinghai lake you can bring the peleton back together with a fairly week team (no stats above 70). The Daily db is pretty good, and the ppdb has fixed middle mountain stages in large races so that large favourites don't attack. Also apparently the latest ppdb has also stopped flat riders winning sprints, although I haven't used it yet. I guess the main reason to get it though would be if you wanted a 2010 db as I doubt many good ones will come out for 08 whereas for pcm 09 there will probably be quite a few.

The '09 .db's available for it '09 are better.
You'll also more likely to get some good '10 .db's sooner as well. |

I never owned '08 but isn't one big change in '09 the ability to create a custom team? So if you want a career of your own design this might appeal to you. |

Oh yeah, PCM 2008 was horrible DB wise. Get 09' better DB's, custom teams, nicer graphics.
My opinion, it's a no brainer.

You can play with pretty much any of the released DB's and not experience any game stopping bugs.
This also goes for both of the PCM.daily DBs.
The main reason for this is that many of the problematic tables of PCM08 have been deactivated in PCM09. Also, the race invitation system, which killed the PCM.daily 2009 DB V3 for PCM08, has been changed, making the game much more stable, even with larger databases.
So, sure, go for a Real Name DB if you like, but there really isn't anything to be afraid of with the PCM09 DB's |

thanks crue. i'll have a look into it when the disk arrives. probably be asking for plenty of advice again.
also, i don't mean to be disrespectful of the work that goes into the DBs. I know that alot of hard work goes into them. i just had alot of problems with the 09 DB for 08 which lessened my enjoyment of it quite considerably.

I wasn't offended, and I completely agree with you. Playing a full season just to see your save game crash and burn is awful.
I'm just saying that there are better and just as stable alternatives to the official DB |

No doubt he's talking about Vizlefx who keep claiming they have EA support.
How anyone can say that with pride is beyond me, given the "quality" of EA's sports games. If it were true, the game would have 35000 teams, excellent graphics, fantastic menus and presentation and the gameplay would be beyond awful and as far removed from realism as a cycling game has ever been

I think it would be very difficult for the gameplay to be more unrealistic than any previous cycling game, that said, if anyone could do it EA could.
