And how exactly did I not rate helpers as successes? Klostergaard is there. Was he some kind of superstar? Of course not, he's a decent helper. I listed him as a hit. Chris Sörensen is hardly a superstar either. I listed him too.
Name one guy I listed as a bust that ended up being a good rider for the team? There aren't any. The ones that turned out well were kept. The busts were discarded. That last one is the main criteria: if Riis discarded you because he thought you didn't fit in the team, then that's a clear indication that even the team manager thinks you're a bust
Did you even read my post, or did you just skim through it?
I did read it, yes. For once, I could argue Vandborg is somewhat a succes. 4th in WC ITT in Salzburg, finished the Tour twice with Liqiugas, working his ass off. He did well in this years Tour of California aswell, no superstar, but still a decent helper, I would even put him above Klostergaard, anytime.

I never said that he would fail for sure. I'm still questioning why he's getting the chance when he hasn't proved anything ever. He has results in Israeli races, and that's it. How does that justify a contract with a World Tour team? Again,as I said before,Riss is a smart guy,so he probably thinks that ran is going to improve to a good enough rider.and should be noted that Riss signed him for only 1 year so in 12 months we will see if Riss is right or not. |

Michael Mørkøv have been very strong this year, stronger than ever. He doesnt have that many results (well besides the 3rd overall at the Tour of Denmark), but he is a fantastic helper. Im 100% sure that Michael Mørkøv in the future (could be possible next year) will be one of the best helpers in the Tour de France. He is also good on cobbles, and a pretty good sprinter. He just need to find the races where he can make good results (well when he is not helper, i think he will be most of the time though). Mørkøv was never one of the big talents on the road, and by now he have a higher level than what you could expect from him.
Mads Christensen. 4-5 years with no cycling or cycling on a low level, what did you expect in his comeback year? This year he just had to get used to the life as a pro again. He did fine, good TTs and also ok climbing in some races. Next year he have to step up, yes. But calling him a bust now is not fair imo.

Nothing wrong with being nationalistic, almost everyone here is, and without a variety of nationalists riders from lesser nations will go unmentioned, making this forum a poorer place.
Just be prepared to be disappointed and aim small, my dream is currently a South African rider at a GT which could happen next year, as well as a PT worthy climber, which could happen in the next 2-3 years.
Both could happen soon if Augustyn gets his ass in gear and the injuries behind him
Yeah hopefully although I have started losing faith in that ever happening, Hunter should get a GT ride next season as well, Impey seems to be changing teams again next season, although I'm not sure where he is going so he might go Pro Tour as well.
Van Zyl and Mentjies have both been very strong uphill on the domestic scene and are only 19/20 so hopefully they will come through internationally in the next few years as well.
You must believe, look at Slovakia: Many years without a decent rider in the World Tour (only Svorada, who was born in Slovakia) and now Bam! GT podium rider (probably only only that Vuelta but still) and one of the most impressive talents in cycling we have.
I thought Augustyn will be great rider, but he has a large portion of bad luck in his career. If cycling is popular in your country, some new talents will certainly rise up.

Some really solid signings for them there that should help them be somewhat competitive on the Continent. Hopefully Day will get a good run at some Continental races.

I heard something on the broadcast of the WC today:
Bruyneel has put Brajkovic available on the transfer market cause he still has to much riders under contract. He offered him to Astana on some kind of loan and Astana wanted him but they said that Bruyneel's team than would have to keep paying Brajkovic's checks. Is it actually possible to loan riders in cycling (like in soccer)?

I think so, at least back in the days it was case. If memory serves, Ronan Pensec went on loan for a half season or something. Not sure though, I was a tad young to understand those subtilities. Might have been a transfer to Novemail.

I just finished watching " chasing legends " (the movie about HTC-Columbia ) and it would not suprise me in the slightest if Cav and Eisel ended up together, They were best friends, better friends than Cav - Renshaw. |
