My Uncle got stuck in Turkey, which was funny.
Yeah, I remember that one.

Portugueshes, Doddy, angry portugueshes.
And Crue, you missed these colder days, I suppose. Still, it's over 27ºC in Albufeira. |

What is the difference between Maths and Further Maths? Is Maths algebra and Further Maths calc or something?

I've got a great statistics joke for you.
Three statisticians go duck hunting. They go out into a muddy field, and they see a duck. The first statistician aims his gun and fires. The recoil of the gun and the slippery mud causes him to fall down, and his shot goes just high. Then the second statistician takes aims, fires, and falls from the recoil and the ground, with his shot going just low. The third statistician throws his gun down to the ground and starts shouting "We got em boys, we got em!"

Basically, Further Maths is the same sort of thing as Maths, only to a higher level (so harder)

I figured that, but what specific level of math is the difference? Calc, pre-calc, stat? |

We got the same here (further maths) for those who did sciences (like me), although I did further physics & chemistry (and could also have done advanced geology & biology).
Usually further maths were for those who'd become engineers, or were the most comfortable with abstract stuff. |

Again, that doesn't explain what was actually in it, you're just saying it was advanced.
Does sound sort of like AP courses here in the US, where you take college level courses in high school, and if you get a good result on the exam at the end of the year you get "placed out of" or get to skip the course in college. |

That depends on the modules taken. Further Maths wasnt at all like that for me.
In the UK it tends to be split into 3 - Pure, Applied (Mechanics) and Statistics.
For my school, the Normal maths course consisted of 4 Core modules and then either 2 statistics modules or 2 mechanics modules.
Further Maths for me had 2 Further Pure Modules, 2 Decision maths modules, Numerical Methods and Statistics 3. (Although the rest of my class, who did mechanics rather than statistics, did Differential Equations rather than Stats 3)

In France, further stuff (2 hours per week) was more experiments in physics, so we were more handy when it came to manipulating devices and all during regular lessons.
We also got +2 coefficient for that speciality at the A-level exams (physics & chemistry : 6+2, maths : 7, biology & geology : 6, written French : 2, spoken French : 2, philosophy : 3, English : 3, History & geography : 3, sports : 2).
As for maths, it were more or less college/university stuff (which is also basically, say for 90% of it, grammar school/high school stuff pushed further), but that didn't give any right to miss the courses at the above level (well sometimes you can miss and just go to exams, as long as you succeed nobody minds).
edit : I thought that with E.U. rules they would harmonise what we're learning at different levels, so that we can do Erasmus more easily (of course it's way too late for me).
What you did, SN, is more like what I did at the university later. First trimester was mathematics methodology (groups of elements, etc.), then it was algebra (matrix, etc.), and ultimately it was ?? might be something to do with calculations, I can't remind (I should have attended more lessons perhaps ).

Its broadly similar here then I guess - for example, the university course Im taking will include some of the stuff Ive done in Further Maths, in the first year of the course. (Not all schools offer Further Maths, so universities cant assume all taking the course will know it beforehand)
