Birthday Boy - Part I of I July 14th, the day of the Bastille, the French revolution. But most of all, my birtday!
When I woke up and opened my eyes, it almost scared me to death! I was looking in the eyes of my loving wife. What a big surprise!
She had come to see me for my birthday. Her present? Breakfast together. I grabbed her by the arms and kissed her. Then I looked around the room and see my Maillot Jaune, folded carefully, laying on the chair next to my bed.
As I looked from Becca to the Maillot Jaune and back I realized this was the best birthday ever. It just doesn't get better than this...
Tour de France - Stages 14 - 17
Some flat stages, some hilly stages. But nobody going for the GC would waste any energy here with the final 4 stages being what they are.
I guess you've seen them on the tv, so I won't waste much energy myself. I loved riding around in the Maillot Jaune. The four stages brought winners like Langeveld, Bochman, Gerrans & Greipel.
General Classification | 1 | Henry Vergnaud | Team Celesio - Macquarie | 71h32'15 | | 2 | Chris Froome | Sky Procycling | + 1'58 | | 3 | Alejandro Valverde | Movistar Team | + 3'28 | | 4 | Andy Schleck | RadioShack - Leopard | + 7'08 | | 5 | Tejay Van Garderen | BMC Racing Team | + 7'47 | | 6 | Carlos Betancur | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | + 9'13 | | 7 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Cannondale Pro Cycling | + 10'52 | | 8 | Rui Costa | Movistar Team | + 13'45 | | 9 | Richie Porte | Katusha Team | + 15'10 | | 10 | Michał Kwiatkowski | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | + 18'42 |
Now there are four stages left. But they are probably the toughest final stages of any Tour de France ever. Three extremely hard mountain stages and a final time trial of 30 kilometers.
I will report back from every single stage, make sure of that!
I have a 2 minute lead to defend. But I'm afraid I might lose those 2 minutes in the final 30km time trial.
Things are about to get heavy.

Bøchman
Good to see he can achieve things in other stories as well
Edit: and another 47 second gained on Froome as well!

Henry performed incredible, what a ride up to Mont Ventoux. And things can get heavier, I am sure Henry will be still up to them. Show Froome who's boss.

krisa - Yeah, looking good
Atlantius - I was quite happy for Bochman, too. When I decided not to chase too hard, I was rooting for him
Froome lost those seconds in the stage to the Mur van Huy, not his cup of tea!
Shonak - So far it's going great indeed. He's gathered a lot of bananas already I'm looking forward to battling Froome in the final mountain stages!
After the real life cyclo-cross, I'll do a mountain stage. But that's probably it for today. I've made enough progression this weekend, give you a chance to catch up |

Tour de France - Stage 18
The Race With four more stages, we are more than willing to put up a great fight.
But our efforts aren't endlessly. When the favorites attack, it's up to me to counter them.
I was quite lucky Herklotz was there to continue the acceleration.
Froome, Valverde were the most prominent at the front. I followed their attacks and their attacks only.
It was a bad case of accordion today. We headed into the final 10 kilometers, Herklotz had returned to give me some final assistance. He gave me moral strength and I was ready for the final climb.
Flashback to the first mountain stage. Four of us were fighting each other.
Only this time I tried to keep the pace high, mainly to avoid any fast attacks from Valverde or Froome. In a 210 km stage I wasn't sure how I would deal with those if it became too much. I can only counter so many attacks.
Are we in Spain again? The final kilometer was incredibly steep. This, actually, put Froome on a small distance.
And the World Champion takes his Tour stage victory in his jersey. Quite a stage today. I don't lose time so I'm a happy man.

I certainly wouldn't have put any money on it, but here I am. Three stages left and I'm leading the Tour de France with 2 minutes. I'm not sure what this means at this point. In three days, we'll know.

A beatiful win for the World Champion (even though I dislike Valverde) and a brilliant ride from Vergnaud!
Surprised, but happy, to see Froome suffering like this...

Brilliant stage by Henry.
I've heard rumours about a French tour winner, but of course, the chance is very low, because no French riders have the potential to win the tour. |

It's okay Valverde won. I like him and he definitely does the WC jersey proud. But still, the yellow jersey shines the brightest here. Another wonderful performance by Henry. France must be half on fire by now, lots of excitement for french cycling fans.
