Great to see that my 2 weeks of absence have not inffracted with the day to day proceedings on this website...
I am delighted to declare that I have finally changed my college course (may be the first time I have mentioned it here ) but this also means that I am probably a lot less active on this site, due to a lot of work, crazy hours and my increased commitment to athletics (and the college athletics team)...
Dont worry, Ill still be around for the usual graphic projects and the heated discussions, just not as much

Not that geography isn't interesting, but way too many people go study it here (a bit like history, and sociology), and find themselves working at McDonalds or wherever, because that didn't learn them any job. Face it, positions as geography searcher or teacher are not so numerous, especially compared to the number of students. |

In jobs? Yes, altough in Portugal i'm not shore if that applies to any bloody job . Still, as a subject, Geography is way better imo than Chemistry/Physics and Math. Of course, Chemistry/Physics and Math are the two required to like every bloody university in Portugal. |

Well, it still takes a while until I'm going to study(at age 18, I'm 16 now), so I haven't really paid that much attention to it, but I'm aiming for Economical Geography. Is that better or even worse? I don't want to work at McDonalds

Yes it is true that the number of "traditional" Geography jobs are small. However taking Geography at University, at least in the UK, is not about moving into those positions. Geography now spends a lot of it's time promoting itself as a Degree that will teach you skills, rather than overly in-depth knowledge.
Naturally the courses include learning about the content, but at least at my Uni the emphasis is about developing those transferable skills, and creating the most complete and employable Graduates.
For me it's not about getting a Geography Degree then going on to Teach it, or measure rocks. I picked Geography for those reasons above, the emphasis on transferable skills, and the fact that a Degree is pretty much a necessity for job hunting.

I am still studying geography, I just dropped my second subject to have my whole 60 credits tangled up in geography, cause there were too many modules i wanted to choose (such as GIS,environmental governance etc)...
