His GC position makes me believe he could've contested the KoM or at least a breakaway stage win, but he seemed to be content with getting dropped (always rather late, but still getting dropped) every mountain stage.

Yeah he really seems to be riding his race completely wrong, looked to be in form after Trentino so at least expected him to be contesting for a stage win or KOM points but he has missed every serious break.
