What the literal fuck is this race. We might not even win white?!?
Top 3 is the ABSOLUTE minimum I will accept from this race, so we better get to work tomorrow and I expect an impressive TT by Herklotz too.
Otherwise we can kiss any podium chances at the end of the season goodbye.

Bongiorno had every chance to climb up the KOM rankings to ATLEAST 2nd, but he didn't even try. That's too bad really, as he was never going to win that stage.
4th is obviously as good as it could be, so we'll have to take it. Unfortunately the gaps wasn't big enough for him to make drastic GC climbs. A top 30 is possible though.

Another very good stage from Stake Laengen. A great performance from him to be 17th at this stage, and with the time gaps, it will probably need a really bad day for him to fall out of the top 20. Seeing how Tour de Suisse went, it hurt a bit to not have him there, which mostly was a RD issue iirc, but not when he delivers like that. Thanks for the report, Tamijo!

Galta doing well there to hang on, and even gaining some small seconds to most riders behind him in the GC. It was clearly the calm before the storm, though, fingers crossed he has a great daily form on this TT. Then he might be able to advance a spot or two in the overall. That will be a pleasant surprise if it happens, as it feels like a minute is a lot to both Smith and Talansky.
Also very nice to see Jacobsen try again. A good stage for us! |

I really don't understand what's going on here, just as I didn't understand it with Cattaneo in the Vuelta. Monsalve is basically the same rider as Wellens, and yet is 7 minutes and 14 places behind him. Yates should be up there with Talansky and Smith based on stats as well. |

Well, stage went as expected. Breakaway takes it and thankfully no bigger GC changes at the front. Sicard out of reach though. I may be too optimistic, but defending the podium should be very possible for Morton now. Just don't screw it up with a bad daily form or stuff like that..
Bevin. So close to a stage win. Would have been great!

Velits hanging around in the main group is good. Dekker being a valuable domestique here apparently, which is good to see as pre season it was highly possible to get rid of him as stat/wage quotient is not really good anymore.
Stage wise nice to see Boom being in the group but with no team mate with him and also not the strongest and going for the sprints on the way, it was obvious, that he won`t stand a chance. Still good showing.
Now the final mountain TT and I am pretty positive about holding on to the top10, but let`s see how it ends. |

Kangert has had a bad season so far, but this is a nice highlight. The stage suited him very well, so clever that he went in the break.
Madrazo did what he had to do this stage. Hope he can atleast climb back to top 5 GC in the TT.

Indeed, indeed! We'll talk in transfers again?
Even though it was so close on the line, second from such a large and strong group is still amazing, and at least somewhat makes up for the absolute lack of stage results from Herklotz.
Third in GC still has to be the goal for us after the TT.
4 Seconds on Gesink and 25 on Kudus are very much doable if the climbing part creates the gaps it should, and especially if Silvio finally has a good day in this race.

Really really solid week from Velits, really happy to see a good GC result for him And a great week for the Kiwis with Smith (even if he slipped out of the top 10) and also Bevin's 2nd place on a stage - if either of them enjoyed that taste of success and would like to do it more often, Xero beckons. Smith in particular - George Bennett's win at the Tour of Japan could be you next season if you come to us and let me train you

@jandal:
But indeed a great ride by Smith again, what a very nice additional GC performance this is. Didn't expect him to be that good on Ventoux, but he made it almost back into the GC Top-10. Just talked to him and he's really happy with helping Morton to secure a podium GC.
Talking about Morton, that's surely a nice result after all. Madrazo's performance on Ventoux shows, that the stage could have lead to a significant GC change. So I'm happy Morton rode another good stage to 3rd on the day and 2nd in GC. Missing the team's classification by 8 seconds hurts though!
Obviously a really nice TdS/Dauphine for us eventually. A good preparation for Morton and his first (iirc) TdF appearance for us.
Thanks for the quality reports, Tami! And congrats to all winners - so Air France in particular. Monster race for Sicard on home soil (which is kinda cool from a Rpg view).

Wow Madrazo absolutely nailed the Ventoux TT Didn't dare to dream he would claw his way back to the podium beforehand. Also didn't expect him to ever beat Herklotz in a GC again.
So despite the initial disappointment of Madrazo failing hard in the first mountain stage, we leave the Dauphine with a satisfied feeling. Two stage wins and 3'd in GC is fine. Also cool to see Powless find his legs; surely a glimpse of the future. And Vervaeke rode a solid Dauphine as well.
Congrats Crue and tsmoha. Sicard winning this is a cool story. And I know how it feels to have a GC rider who often underperforms, so it's good to see Morton flying.
Thanks to Tamijo for the nice reports.

No riders finished? ;-)
Not a good race for us neither. Bongiorno in 29th here and with no notable results other than his 5th place on a stage and 5t place on KOM. The turnaround was very poor, rather than him just focussing on getting the KOM or top 20 GC.
Andreas Stauff was also nowhere to be seen unfortunately, while we for once didn't see a single breakaway attempt from our grand master Kastrantas.
Oh well, looking at how Switzerland went we can't complain.

Thanks for the reports Tamijo!
I'm just glad that's over. Appears as if Monsalve had a -5 day on every single Mountain stage there - the MTT performance can't be explained by tactics or positioning. Hopefully it's just a one-off, but it makes our survival chances much slimmer. At least Yates took 14th and we had a few good stage results so it wasn't a total write-off. |

Impressive stage by Madrazo! Nothing to do with Sicard though. A high level from the guys going to the Tour here!
Stake Laengen defending his position relatively good. 18th place in the end is a great result.
Thanks for the reports, Tamijo.

Indeed Velits rode a very nice race here, improving even on that mountain time trial.
Surely 2-5 spots above my expectations.
Dekker with a nice result himself and very valuable in general here. Does this actually mean, that a race without Koep as mountain helper works better?
Madrazo on fire here. Impressive. Same with Morton but good to see Sicard taking it. Strongest all week. |
