VVV-Venlo - Pro Cycling - Vuelta Cyclista Catalunya
TimoCycling
@Daggen: thanks man, I appreciate it! Yeah, I thought it would be more realistic if I put some real life trainers in the story. Might put the other trainers on a race as manager aswellWink.

@Ian: Voeckler is a great rider but his behaviour... I don't really like the show he makes of it.

@Aidan: Thanks man, hope I can use your NC jerseys at the end of the season aswell!Smile

Stage 4: 05/02 – 08/02 - - Vuelta a Mallorca

Some of our riders had to leave the Vuelta a Mallorca. Along with a huge group of other riders! This shows how hard the stage of yesterday was! Somehow we lost Roulston, Dumoulin and Penning. But it doesn’t really matter as we merely needed them to help Bos in the sprints.

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0011Mallorca4.jpg

Pff my PC crashed while I was in the screenshots folder, deleted all my screens… I only managed to retrieve the startlist.
But it was a boring stage anyway. It was quite hilly aswell today, we got a 12 man BOTD:

L. Boom
M. Montaguti
P. Bailetti
D. Menchov
J. Brajkovic
G. Thomas
J. Pantano
J. van de Walle
B. Huzarski
A. Talansky
Y. Popovych
J. Sanchez Pimienta

Pantano took most of the KOTM. But with 24 points it’s not enough to steal the jersey from Cobo, whom has 30 points. Capecchi tried to wait for as long as possible and on the last hill he tried to join the attack! In the very last descent he tried to go again but he couldn’t get away. He was totally out of energy so he couldn’t sprint anymore. He finishes in 26th. But with yesterday’s number 2, Rubén Plaza, losing 2 minutes today he jumps to the 9th place in the GC. Not a bad result considering his fitness!

Talansky starts the sprint really early and surprises the other ones. With 250 meters to go he already starts to wave his hands in the air! But he does not notice L.P. Nordhaug coming with a huge power burst! Nordhaug takes the stage and Talansky looks like a complete idiot!

With this result Nordhaug wins this year’s Vuelta a Mallorca. Voeckler finishes in 2nd position and the 3rd place goes to Lövkvist who did a great job aswell!

Comment from Abdoujaparov:
“well, nothing much to say. Capecchi with bad fitness taking 9th in the GC is a good result for us. I feel bad for Talansky but I must say it was extremely funny, hahaha, onto the next race!”

Our startlist:

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0002Md.jpg

As you can see the landscape here is beautiful. The peleton seems to be enjoying it aswell!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0003Md.jpg

Our first stage in Tour Méditerranéen! In the beginning of the stage Vaitkus tried to get away a couple of times but he didn’t succeed.
Finally a BOTD forms after a lot of attacks. Names:

J. Guay
P. Perichon
P. Cazaux
N. Rousseau
A. Coyot
D. Veilleux

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0004Md.jpg

They survive for a long time, but when the penultimate climb starts Seeldraayers attacks out of the peloton! He quickly takes a nice gap and starts chasing the breakaway.

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0005Md.png

He reaches them at the end of the last climb. He quickly drops all of them with 30kms to go. Coyot was the last one to try to join him but he knows the attempt is fruitless and lets himself fall back to the peleton. Still a nice present for Cazaux, he’s taking the KOTM-jersey for tomorrow.

Seeldraayers is all alone now with 30kms to go and the peleton is chasing him! He has about 2 minutes left but he won’t make it. The pace of the peleton is just too much.

In the sprint our train gets completely derailed and FDJ is way in front. We try to get back but it’s too late. A 16th place for Nizzolo and 18th place for Westra. A major setback for our team!
Bouhanni takes the win by a huge margin. But tomorrow we’ll see!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0006Md.jpg

Comment from Honda:
“after being back from the Besseges this is not a nice result to start with of course. But we’ll do everything in our power to win next stage!”

Our Startlist:

With the deception of yesterday, the whole team wanted to get a good result today! Same old story today… BOTD gets away and we don’t participate. We know they’re gonna get caught so we don’t see the point. Names:

K. Koren
M. Buffaz
F. Schmidt
I. Konovalovas

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0008Md.jpg

As we predicted they get caught with 10kms to go. We try a different tactic today. We are putting Nizzolo in the wheel of yesterday’s winner, Nacer Bouhanni, and putting Vaitkus in Nizzolo’s wheel. It proves to be a way better tactic as Nizzolo has the chance to win the sprint today! It’s going to be a drag race!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0009Md.jpg

Can you tell who’s winning? It’s hard to tell but in the end it’s Steegmans who takes it home! Jimmy Casper finishes in 2nd place and Nizzolo finishes in 3rd place! The margins are very small, this gives us hope for the upcoming stage! Vaitkus also does a good job and finishes in 9th place!

Comment from Honda:
“Our tactic today proved to be a lot better, but it still shows we have to improve at forming trains. Sometimes it works perfectly, but too many times it flaws. Nevertheless, I’m really happy with the result today! Nizzolo did a great job and we’re confident for tomorrow!”

Stage 3: 09/02 – 12/02 - - Tour Méditerranéen

Stageprofile:

Our startlist:

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0013Md.jpg

Today will be the last sprint stage of this race! The last chance for Nizzolo to take a win home! Same old story again, but this time we sent Kelderman in the break!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0014Md.jpg

You never know right? It’s a tough stage so, what the heck? Let’s just try! His companions are:

Bérard
Mangel
Renev
Amador
Cauqil
Demaret
Zimine

At the start of the penultimate climb they still have 2 minutes. It’s not much as the pace behind them is really high.

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0015Md.jpg

At this climb Zimine and Cauquil, the weakest riders of the group, get dropped. Kelderman takes the mountain points.
But the pace of the peleton is just too much! Casper, the number two of yesterday’s stage gets dropped by the way! Nizzolo is having problems staying well positioned. The breakaway is caught after the last climb. Nizzolo takes the wheel of Bouhanni. Vaitkus, our sprinter with the most energy left, puts himself behind Ferrari.

When the sprint comes it’s Endura Racing that is leading with two riders! They are the smartest of the pack today, as they start the sprint early and surprise the others. Nizzolo is too far positioned and Vaitkus does everything he can but it’s not enough…

A 1-2 for Endura Racing!! They took all sprinters by surprise today!
René Mandri wins it and Russel Downing takes second. Poulhies takes 3rd by a little margin on Vaitkus, who takes 4th place! Nizzolo is disappointing and finishes in 9th place. As the pace was so high the peleton split in pieces! After the 40th place there is a gap of 1:30 minutes.

Lost the screen, sorry:

www.owenphilipson.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Rene-Mandri-Bretagne-st2-sprint-2011.jpg

Comment from Honda:
“wow, how can they call this stage flat?? This was an extremely tough stage for us. Too bad we didn’t make the podium today, but we were a bit unlucky. If Vaitkus had started the sprint earlier we might have won. But hey, with Capecchi in the first group we can start thinking about tomorrow again, the last stage!”

Our startlist:

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0017Md.jpg

Today is the last stage of Tour Méditerranéen. Finally an uphill finish, which will suit our riders very well! Capecchi is still good in the GC, so we will try to get him a top 10 in the GC. Right after the start today, René Mandri is showing off his yellow jersey. Will he keep it today?

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0018Md.jpg

Wow,the pace and attacks at the first of the race are so high that the group breaks! 10 riders ride away. Burghardt and Kelderman are in this group as Burghardt was helping Kelderman getting to the the front of the peleton. We continued and this lead to a BOTD of 10 riders!

As we are cruising towards the last climbs the group is almost caught. Only Kelderman and Burghardt are in front when they start the last descent before the final climb. But as the peleton increases the pace they get caught just after the start of the final climb. Capecchi is placed well and when Wout Poels attacks he quickly joins. They get a small gap of about 20 seconds!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0020Md.jpg

Seeing this, John Gadret goes into the attack aswell and he joins the two up front. They start riding together to get rid of Mandri, who’s riding surprisingly well. Henao sees the danger and attacks aswell, Mandri is trying to hang on and keep his jersey!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0021Md.jpg

The three up front are preparing themselves for the sprint! Let’s see who has the most energy left! Capecchi didn’t lose a lot of energy attacking as he countered Poels. And when I hear Honda screaming in the earphones I just know he will win this! He seems so strong (I‘m watching TV in the back of the car), this is amazing! Poels has lost a lot of energy with his attack and Gadret had to come back aswell!

And YES! Capecchi does it! He’s definitely the strongest today!! With a fierce display of power he takes the stage and the GC!

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0022Md.jpg

Gadret finishes in 2nd place, with 8 seconds behind the winner. Poels gets the same time as Henao; 17 seconds behind. René Mandri comes in 5th together with Serpa. He has 43 seconds behind, so it’s official: Capecchi wins this year’s Tour Méditerranéen! Succes again for VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling! Kelderman takes 9th place today.

Comment from Honda:
“Wow! I’m overwhelmed by this! After we had a quite bad race this makes up for it totally!! A brilliant display of Eros. But I have to say Lieuwe Westra was really important aswell. He rode his ass off for Eros on the last climb. When he started to sprint I just screamed on the top of my lungs to make him win! I’m really proud of him and the team, as we take the team GC aswell!”

New contracts for VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling riders!

Today VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling owner Timo Mennen called a press conference, as he had big news for us! Well soon enough we found out he has managed to prolong a lot of contracts. All these contracts of the riders were ending in the end of 2012, so the team for next year will be almost complete this soon in the season!

In a statement Mennen says he’s very confident in all of these riders and he wants to keep them from going to bigger teams. He says only Vaitkus did not want to prolong his contract, so there’s room for one replacement and maybe some youngsters from the scouting team!

Prolonged contracts:

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0007contr.jpg

Of course the other trainers are very happy with this aswell. They have been working with these riders for the past couple of weeks now, and they probably advised Mennen to prolong their contracts. Especially the renewing of Marc Goos's, Gijs Pennings and Sander Bos' contracts is really important for the trainers. These are all great talents and now they have the time to develop their talents properly!

Honda is also happy with this news:
“I’m very happy Timo decided to prolong the expiring contracts. I now know that I can build on these riders as they will stay with us for a longer time! I’m certain that we can achieve big things if we keep on building!”

Stage 1: Tour of Oman

Stageprofile:

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0001Oman.jpg

Our startlist:

i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k486/timodesigns1/PCM0002Oman.jpg

Same old story of the Tour of Oman again. I really don’t like these stages, quite boring. A Botd formed quite early on. Names:

C.Haga
T. Valentin
M. Mortensen
R. Abello

Of course they get caught, because the peleton with Sky and Liquigas chasing is unforgivable. When we go into the sprint Cavendish is already way in front, he has such a great team to lead him out and maintain a crazy pace… Bos does very well this stage! He takes the 2nd behind Cavendish. But Cavendish wins by a really big margin! Forgot to take screen, sorry! Elia Viviani takes the 3rd place today!

Honda will give his comment at the end of this race as there’s not much to discuss with these flat stages.
