Yeah Sella was really really misplaced in this race... That's too bad, cause he could've come to great use in another 8-9 day race :-(
Yeah, but I'm not sure there was another race for him.
If I'm not mistaking Sella was in Paris - Nice, Dauphine, Asturias and here. Not many races left that would have suited him
One last chance for Van Stayen to grab a stage win. Hopefully he will take the points jersey at least.
True, but there was another GT... The Tour de France could've been quite good for him I think. - How many racedays did Sella have?

48. But the TDF is rather unpredictable and there also was a long flat TT at the finish, where Sella would have lost time, just like here.
I think Jolly chose the best races for Sella in the end, as he won Paris - Nice and took 2 (?) stage wins in Dauphine.

Perhaps he did... Just seemed a bit odd to me that he would race in Germany where it has been quite notably the better TT'ers who did well...
He could've done the Vuelta instead of the Tour then, but then only 6 racedays left of course... The small tours definately haven't been in his favour this season. I think that Castaño might end up very close to him in terms of points, which is rather strange. Oh well - I still have to rely on no crashes, so I'm not going to say much about Castaño yet

Very happy with the race as far as Uran is concerned. 9 seconds is a bit of a shame, but 2nd overall is not to be looked down upon. Securing a Top 5 in the standings has to be priority over chasing 3rd, and this race has done that well.

Was just about to say something like that.
First overall win of the season and another season goal accomplished. Looks like 4 out of 5

3 in the top 20. Not bad and a pity Oscar wasn't strong enough to sneak a stage win there. |

Not that many crashes for me this season so I guess it was time. But Pedraza was not in too good position anyway, so not that many points lost. I guess Gazzetta was hit a bit harder.
Nice to see Mortensen in the break, eventough he didn't stand a chance of winning.

Phew. No crashes for me here. La Gazzetta was hard done here, as they lost the chance to close down on Sony... I guess it's my luck though, as I end up ahead of them, but I don't want it that way.
Castaño 5th here is a magnificent acomplishment and with Madrazo in 19th it is more like 3rd pointwise, so I'm very happy with that. Another race where I minimize pointlosses to an absolute minimum of what was expected. Seems my top 5 goal is almost secured by now... Now for defending my 3rd place, which will be much tougher.

Great race.
It's only a pity there were so few decisive stages which could add more to its unpredictability. Nevertheless it was a really tight race between the 4 main contenders.
Also great reporting, once more, SN. It's always a pleasure to read your writings. The TTs most of all, you make a wonderful effort on those. The way you pass on the info without spoiling any of the final tension of the stage sets you apart imo.
EDIT: btw Energie 1st in the Teams Classification = banana time

Rankings Update - Just for Deutschland, a separate Fourmies one can come later
The race doesnt really effect the very top of the rankings, but still has plenty of influence on the Top 10, and then all positions downwards. Sella keeps his 6th place for now, holding off a strong score from Rigoberto Uran. The Colombian is now done for the season, but moves ahead of Frank Schleck, for now at least. B&O duo Hagen and Pluchkin are also on the up, and into the Top 10, as Dekker goes 12th.
Race winner Markus Fothen is into 19th as he Nibali, Castano and Roelandts all pass 1000 points.

Teams
The gap to Sony Ericsson is continuing to close, now down to 654 points. They have no huge need to worry yet, but the chasing La Gazzetta, Festina, Pearl and Vesuvio are continuing to be consistently high scorers in recent races and moving clear in the Top 5 battle at least. La Gazzetta still hold the advantage in 2nd, as Festina look to hold off Pearl and Vesuvio - the latter 2 will require a strong end of the season to break through. Its likely to be between Festina and Pearl imo.
Zabriskie's crash is a blow to Wikipedia's Top 5 hopes, while the TTT performance and Pluchkin's efforts helped to make B&O the top scorer in Deutschland. Theyre up 4 spots to 7th, and have received a major boost in their Top 10 aspirations. The battle for the rest of the Top 10 remains tight though, Jack Wolfskin, Auber, Domina and Lipton all scoring to a similar level - and Warner Bros still in there, although now behind Lipton.
Cafe de Colombia and Philips look set for a Top 15 placing but perhaps nothing better - and behind them its not been a great race for Energie. They may have won the teams classification but lose 103 points to Carmeuse, and 14 points to Nespresso. The uphill battle is getting harder for them, while Starbucks are barely clinging on to any sort of hope at all now.
