No one wanted to help to my team in front of peloton. With 20km to finish, gap was still more than 3 minutes.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/4032009-2.jpg

Finally big names made some action, Bernucci as first, followed by Visconti, Paolini and Pronk. But it was late, too late.

Niemec opened sprint...
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/4032009-4.jpg

...but Rubiano was much faster and won this race. Luca Paolini showed fighting spirit, attacked chasing group (as they had no interest to rely) and chased down some riders from original breakaway, finishing 9th. It can´t change anything on our huge disappointment though.

My riders will can remedy their misfire in upcoming races, Trofeo Zssdi and our only cobble classic Eroica. Then we will join T-A and MSR (finally received WC)

Is this really race of 1.2 category? Look at the startlist! Serramenti with their strongest squad, Karpets, LL Sanchez and many other great riders are presented here. We can expect many of them we will meet again in T-A. Our leader for today is Francesco Failli, he should be supported by Francesco Masciarelli in decisive parts of race. I think it´s better to predict nothing, but I hope for decent result.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009z-0a.jpg

Unfortunately game crashed just after finish again, so I have only few pictures Sad

First "successful" breakaway of day - Codol, Velits, Riblon, Noval, Bellotti and Vanendert...unfortunately they seemed to be real threat for main contenders, reached only 1'15 advantage and were caught about 60km before line.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009z-1.jpg

Second part of race was hilly circuit, with short but very steep climb, riders had to climb 4 times. LL Sanchez attacked and made solo ride for about 20km, but were caught by group of main contenders, including single ASA rider Francesco Failli. Sandi Casar decided to attack on penultimate climb and it was winning decision, noone could catch him until finish. Matteo Carrara was very strong again, finishing 3R, only man who knocked down him before line (except of Casar of course) was Leonardo Bertagnolli.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009z-2.jpg

Francesco Failli showed himself in very good shape, finishing 7th just ahead LL Sanchez or Nicolas roche. Another nice result for him.

Field is not too strong as expected, main favourite is without doubt Luca Paolini. Looks like only bad luck, tactics mistake or riders from Cervelo could prevent him to shine here. However main disvantage is pretty weak support from team - and this could be crucial...

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-0a.jpg

Today´s race was really boring for more than 150km. Team Saxo controlled field, but tempo was quite slow and almost everyone could keep in pack.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-1.jpg

Situation has changed dramatically, when Cervelo Test Team finally started to push. Many of riders dropped of the bunch immediately and other and other lost contact in next kilometers.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-2.jpg

Finally, 20km to go and only 7 riders stayed in front - Hammond and Hunt (Cervelo), Gasparotto (Lampre), Bernucci (LPR), Del Nero (Fuji), Ljungqvist (Saxo) and Luca Paolini. His personal guard Simone Masciarelli stayed in group 2.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-3.jpg

Decisive moment of race, Luca attacks with 14km to go! Noone can follow!
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-4.jpg

Paolini increased his advantage until last hill and it was clear he will win today.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-5.jpg

Luca Paolini made it! He won classic race Eroica with increadible superiority over whole field!
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/7032009e-6.jpg

Marcus Ljungqvist finished 2nd ahead on Hammond and Del Nero. Simone Masciarelli took fantastic 10th place!!!

Well, if you look at the ranking for last season, Aqua & Sapone did rather well in the continental rankings (as did Paolini). So, even though the domination may be a bit to much, it's not that bad.

I started a career with the same team, and have about the same results, and for my two cents, the expansion in this DB with a lot of new teams and riders makes the game a lot easier playing with a continental team. Having all those weaker teams results in it not being as many Pro Tour teams in the races thus weakening almost any continental race (at least the .2 races).

beagle
I don´t think, it´s right time yet...wait for PT races, I almost blacked out after seeing T-A start list Grin

I must remind, Paolini will finish first part of season early in April, his second fitness peak is planned to Autumn classics. Main goal for Garzelli is Giro of course, so he won´t gain enough points to secure promotion...and rest of my riders aren´t easily good enough...Failli´s great results are mainly caused by his good shape early in season plus mostly pretty weak startlists...

good luck for Tirrenno

Good luck! Do you think you could make something in GC? Or you will fight for stages?

thanks, main goal is to win KOM jersey...everything else is over the plan...maybe Paolini should make good results in flat or decent hilly stages, most sprinters joined P-N

baia
You are doing well...let´s wait for Pro Tour races and see if it´s time to change to extreme..Cool

ASA team:

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-0-1.jpg

Paolini is our leader for sprints, Failli will try to fight for KOM jersey, first goal of season. According to GC, we have no goal here. Field is just too strong here. Second reason is stage 5,long time trial, where my riders will loose too much time.

Stages:

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-1-1.jpg
Opening stage is flat, with small hill shortly before finish. This could suit to Paolini, one of best sprinter in field.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-2-1.jpg
Stage 2 is very similar. Only difference is quite hard climb 60km after start. Another great chance for Paolini.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-3-1.jpg
Stage 3 is the easiest one, third chance for Paolini.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-4-1.jpg
There are several hills during stage 4, including uphill finish. Probably first chance for GC contenders to show themselves. But we can´t expect any fundamental decisions regarding to overall rankings.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-5-1.jpg
Stage 5, first really important stage. 33km long hilly time trial will select main contenders from others. This is right time to show power. Unfortunately, as said above, I have poor time trialists.

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-6-1.jpg
Penultimate stage of race could be called queen. 234km long with many short but steep hills and one big, Sasso Tetto (13,7km; avg slope 7,3%). We will probably know race winner after that stage.¨

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-7-1.jpg
Last stage is easy, maybe chance for non threatening riders in breakaway? Or for Paolini in sprint.

Stage reports coming soon...

Stage 1

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-1-1.jpg

There was no typical BOTD as peloton didn´t let go froup with Codol or F.Masciarelli...few strong flat riders (Hoste, Burghardt, Van Impe and Usov) attacked in second part of stage...
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-1-1.jpg

...but were caught just before last hill. An ideal scenario for Failli, he attacked and wins single mountain sprint!
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-2.jpg

Final sprint! Paolini (94 fitness, +5 daily form is in great position behind Quick.step duo Pineau, Davis. There are O´Grady, ciolek, Hunter and Petacchi in train behind Luca.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-3.jpg

Paolini is blocked by Davis, O´Grady, Ciolek and Hunter are moving forward.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-4.jpg

Luca is free again and fastest in last kilometer, but it´s too late to challenge Ciolek, who takes a lead.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-5.jpg

Gerald Ciolek wins stage 1, ahead of O´Grady and Paolini.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-6.jpg

Mass crash under 5km banner! Basso, Nibali, Leipheimer, A.Schleck, Tiralongo, Cobo and some more contenders are amongst victims and lost over 2 minutes today!
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/11032009-7.jpg

Jonathan Bellis was forced to abandon after that crash together with Muller and Morabito. Diagnosys? Fractured skull...cruel irony.

A first stage that look good!
When Nothing goes rigth, go left...

Bosskardo
Nice one, looks like Paolini might do good
And hope he wins CT ranking too.

Stage 2

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-2-1.jpg

Most of stage led under the water...
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/12032009-1-1.jpg

...or under flying building.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/12032009-2.jpg

Failli won both mountain sprints and exted his leading in KOM competition.
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/12032009-3.jpg

Hunter won underwater sprint ahead of Davis and Paolini.

Stage 3

i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/10032009-3-1.jpg

Nothing really interesting happened during stage 3, Failli missed the opportunity to extend his leading in KOM competition. From unknown reason Paolini couldn´t join any train, "follow" button didn´t work...
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/13032009-1-1.jpg

...so he had to sprint from first position...
i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt229/sarinka9/13032009-2.jpg

...and obviously without chance for winning, but was so happy with another 3rd place (behind Napolitano and Petacchi), which brought him another bonus seconds and leader jersey!!!
