The DVD version has no patches included, if that is what you mean.
This is how you install and run the game from the DVD:
1. Install the game
2. Start the game
3. Wait for the patch to download and install
4. Install the additional packages which you can get from here
5. Play the game |

I already have PCM 2013, and was wondering if the 14 is worth buying, or are the 13 with daily season 14 update, just as good?
Can someone tell me if the new auto mode is any good, and how it works? |

Best price yet if I'm not mistaken. On a side note don't use AmEx cards with GMG.
Where do I type the promo code? |

GMG codes are entered at checkout, but unfortunately it expired on July 14th. I am sure there will be another deal at some point.
I think Gaming Panda has the best current price for a steam key. Some other places offer a game key but you must find the download on your own or borrow someone else's game DVD to install. |

Select the protector. Then right-click at the rider he needs to protect, and click the shield.

I can run PCM 13 on full graphics but yet I can't run PCM 14 on full graphics, what's changed. Surely 14 should run at full graphics too.
I think that is what is causing my crashes in 3D mode as I have just tried stage 1 of the TDF and yet again it crashed as soon as it stop loading.

These are the graphics I toned it down too and it still crashes.

We should not discuss this here but anyway.
To test if the crash comes from the graphic options, lower everything to 0 and deactivate roadsides, 3d clouds, rider faces, sun rays, road details and isolated buildings.
If it works with these settings, activate one after the other and test in between to find out which setting is causing problems. |

From my experience, realistic rays of sun are probably the heaviest loading thing and it's really unstable this year, so try disabling that (it really isn't a special effect in-game that should change your game completely), it may work.

BTW: What are these 3D clouds? I never looked at the sky in all the years I played this game. |

I find Anisotropy is the highest. Its the only thing I dont have maxed in the past 3 versions of the game. He's got it on 8, and I dont even know what it does. I've never noticed a difference when its higher or lower.

Wikipedia wrote:
Anisotropic filtering (AF) is a method of enhancing the image quality of textures on surfaces that are far away and steeply angled with respect to the point of view. Older techniques, such as bilinear and trilinear filtering, do not take into account the angle a surface is viewed from, which can result in aliasing or blurring of textures. By reducing detail in one direction more than another, these effects can be reduced.
So if you play with a camera pointing down on the riders, you might not need it.
That just reminds me: If you have a weak computer, don't point the camera at the horizon. Or in other words, you might be able to play on high settings if the camera has a 90° angle to the road. (straight down).

I have taken off realistic sun rays, lowered Anistropic to 2, the isn't crashing anymore and runs close enough to the same level as PCM 13 which is good. Some stages like the London stage freeze more but I can deal with that

I have updated my previous post. It could help to tilt down the camera if you experience lags on certain sections of the stage. For example if there are many trees, people or other stuff. |

I have it just above the riders head parallel with the centre of the road, I will just tweak things as I go along, I have quality of terrain, level of vegetation and level of urban detail turned down to 2 from 3, that has made a huge difference and I can't see a massive difference between he 2 levels.
Its a very hot day today too and my Belkin laptop cooler has broke so my laptop gets unbelievably hot when playing the game.
Thanks
