Wow.
The Tour de France is big.
Really, really big.
It's a circus, seems bigger than life, you get thrown from one thing into another. And I'm not even talking about the race!
Here's what happened the past two days.
Tour de France 2015 The Tour de France this year is not an easy one. There are some terribly tough mountain stages and just as much tricky hilly stages, including a finish on Mur de Huy.
After 4 days of Corsica, we head to the North.
The first two mountain stages are right before the first rest day. There is also a 40 km time trial.
On the agenda this year: the legendary Mont Ventoux.
The final week sees very harsh mountain stages, with the toughest stage on stage 20. Stage 21 finishes on the traditional Champs, but not with a mass sprint. This time it ends with an individual time trial.
Squad
I'm the absolute leader here. Everyone will be working for me. Kristoff will go his chances in the sprints, but when it comes down to it, he listens to me.
This gives me a lot of confidence but also quite some stress. I'm not afraid to be ambitious. It's only my first Tour, but I'm brave/foolish enough to talk out loud: I want to be on the podium in Paris!
Prologue
This is where it happens. My first experience of the Tour de France. The crowd was surreal. So loud, so many.
Only 3 kilometers to start. I probably could've gone 10 seconds faster if I hadn't been so nervous and made so many mistakes.
Stage 2
Travis Bickle in his very first Maillot Jaune. Ready for the first real stage in this Tour.
And then we waited. We waited for 10 kilometers, until... The first (and so far only) attacker in this Tour, Pignol! Cofidis with a plan to conquer the mountain jersey early on, it seems.
One thing I shouldn't be afraid of is that I'll disappear into the background here. Wearing this jersey, I'm afraid the camera will always find me, wherever I am!
No goals for me in this stage. I stayed within the 20% front riders, to avoid gaps.
The finale was terrible. ASO has screwed up badly with this finish. Many turns made for a dangerous mass sprint. It's a miracle nobody went down. Greipel ended up winning easily.
And we have our first gap! Rodriguez and Kwiatkowski are the first victims, GC-wise.

A decent start for me. I'm still getting used to all this. Tomorrow is the first stage classified as hilly, I will be attentive, but also ambitious.
The Vuelta has proven that I'm not a rider that burns up easily. I'm not afraid to go to war early on now. If the chance offers itself, I will start my campaign tomorrow.
May Van Impe and Sun Tzu stand by my side. Because, by God, I will need them!

Some heavy racing here! The level at the Tour is higher than any level elsewhere. Maybe except for the World Championships.
A podium is still the goal, but I'll be more than happy with a top 5 and even top 10 place, considering this is my first Tour.
Tour de France - Stage 3
Van Impe was clear: don't initiate attacks in the first week. I won't, but I will answer other attacks by close competitors.
The Race Manresa is in love with red dots. So he went looking for them!
Meanwhile, I was getting used to the cameras finding me. As long as I don't have an off day, I'm all right with it.
When Froome went, it was a sign to react!
I was able to follow, but let me be honest here; I was glad to be hanging on at this point. I didn't step up to the pace at all. No wasting energy, especially not when you don't have any to spare!
Nibali brought a big group back in the downhill section that followed.
I missed the punch to sprint for the victory but I managed my first Tour podium place in a stage, great!

A good stage for me. The level is very high but I'm proving I can step up to it. Can't wait for the real mountains!
See you later,
Henry |

That's a very strong podium, hopefully next time you'll be on a different step. |

Really great start, not a lot of time lost in the ITT and already a podium place!
But you can't let the weeding story unfinished

Selwink - Yes indeed, thanks
Jakstar22 - hope to keep it up!
sutty68 - That'd be great!
The_hoyle - Well, it's certainly no bad start
The Hobbit - Preferably two steps up
duxili - I'm evil, ain't I? The wedding story isn't unfinished, but during the Tour, Henry has little time, so it's hard for him to continue the story. Maybe he'll write the next installement on the first rest day
Atlantius - Thanks, hope it gets even better!
Have an exam in an hour or two. So when I get back, there are two options:
1. Exam went good -> I'm happy and play PCM.
2. Exam went bad -> I play PCM to forget about it.
So expect the next update later today |

I'm just as logical as PCM, ain't I?
Oh, and for those who were wondering: the little personal piece that preceeds a race is not gone, but with Henry racing in the Tour, he has little chance to write it the next piece will probably come either after the Tour of maybe on a rest day!
Hope you agree with that! |

My coment seems to have gone missing, but anyway it's great to see Henry back in the tricolore, and a podium on his third stage at Le Tour is awesome too.
And good luck for your exam.

krisa - Thanks, I quite agree! All eyes are on Henry. But Manresa snatching that KoM jersey for a few days is very good of him, relieving some stress of Henry. Even if it's only maybe 0.5% or something |
