Levarlet rode decently in the mountains

rjc_43
And here is the teams aim of the season. This is to prove that we deserve to be up in the pro tour. Both Vaugrenard, Pervis, Belkov and Kiryienka are all psyched up for this race. With it being Belkovs and Kiryienka's last race, they want to make it a good one.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTPro.png

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTLineUp.png

With a line up like this, we expect to be one of the favourites, and as if by magic we are "not to be underestimated". However, looking at the other squads here, I believe we are the strongest by far.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTEvansRaboDanger.png

Evans is leading a generally weak Rabobank team.

Whilst Contador and Leiphimer both head up a strong Discovery Team.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTLeviConta.png

Starting 18th on the start list, Auber is ready to rock.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTAuber.png

Trailing by a lot at the intermediate check, Vaugrenard, Kiryienka, Belkov all move up to start doing 15+ second turns. This has the unfortunate effect of breaking the team apart.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTAuberBitOfProb.png

We are in a bit of a problematic area. Not wanting to slow down, but also wanting another guy to catch back up, the team decides just to push on. The gap to Euskatel is falling rapidly.

By the finish line, the team remains as split apart, but... we nearly catch Euskatel!

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/EindhovenTTTAuberCatchEusk.png

Will it be enough? Euskatel's strongest time trialler was a 67, so it's not much to gain 2 minutes on them.

Who won!?!

Unfortunately the Russian RR Champs wouldn't let me race in 3d, so I was stuck with having to simulate it. A great pity as Belkov is at 95 fitness again.

He didn't even feature, ending up about 19th.

So, the next best result we had wasn't in the French RR Champs, where Vaugrenard finished 20, but in the higher quality Italian RR Champs. Another great race by Davide Malacarne!

1 Alessandro Ballan LAMPRE - FONDITAL 6h14'42
2 Vincenzo Nibali LIQUIGAS s.t.

4 Davide Malacarne AUBER - BELTELECOM s.t.

8 Gabriele Bosisio TEAM TENAX - MENIKINI s.t.

10 Marco Marcato TEAM LPR + 1'30

Some very strong riders came in behind him, thats easy to see!

Ta all.

Ludovic is taking a long time to level up, so I'm not too sure he's going to be all that great. However, he is better than some of the team, thats for sure.

He'll still have a place for next year.

At the end of June, we were surprised to find that Francois Pervis had been rewarded with the best young rider of the month award.

Le Tour de France 2008

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFLogo.png

The Auber Beltelekom TDF Line up has been chosen.

Heading up the squad is Levarlet. The first team leader, and very much the best French climber in the squad, he'll be looking for things to "click" within the first 3 days before the first mountain stage of the tour.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFLevarlet.png

The team leader, in so much that he requested it, and who are we to stand in his way, is Damien Gaudin. Having not ridden much since the cobbled classics, and being extremely fatigued still, he hopes to complete about 10 days before the more mountainous week claims him as a victim.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFGaudin.png

Next up is our first team sprinter. With a needed stage win in the tour, Drujon is the first choice for a sprinters win. Mainly due to his ok hill ability. He is very close to gaining another flat skill point, and also close to leveling up from the experience of racing with the top guys.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFDrujon.png

Tronet is our second sprinter. Slightly faster than Drujon, he should be able to get some good top 10s throughout the tour. Hopefully he'll survive the mountains.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFTronet.png

Next up is Vaugrenard. For the second year running he is French National Champion, and there is nothing like racing his home grand tour in that jersey. He'll be looking to the first stage and the longer flat ITT later in the tour. He hopes to shine.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFVaugrenard.png

Our second fledgling TT specialist, Pervis, is slightly more nervous about his Grand Tour debut. Being somewhat less experienced than the other riders, he is concerned about the hills and mountains.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFPervis.png

A more all round time trialist, Champion was rescued from the sinking ship that is Bouygues Telekom, and will look forward to debuting for Auber in his first GT of the year. Hopefully he'll be able to provide support to Levarlet in the first few hills and mountains of each stage.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFChampion.png

Martinez was, at one point, being considered for leadership in le Tour. But, his lack in hill ability meant he just wouldn't be able to hang on in there for long enough to gain the experience required. He looks to be an able domestique.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFMartinez.png

Morizot is another of the original Auber team glad to be given the chance to shine. He'll be providing all round domestique duties, with the possible chance to go for a stage himself later in the tour.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFMorizot.png

There's the entire squad. First stage? An ITT. Perfect for the sponsor goal of winning a stage, and perfect for experience and race fitness.

Stage 1

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1.png

First rider off today was Vladimir Karpets, in his Russian National TT champions jersey.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1Karpets.png

He set a very good time, but would eventually end up 6th, 8 seconds back.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1Guiterez.png

Guitierrez also set a great time for Caisse. 5th at 8 seconds back.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1BoassonHagenMinPervis.png

Boasson Hagen starts as one of Euskatels hopes of survival this season, just one minute ahead of Pervis.

Pervis finishes 4th at the time, 15 seconds back.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1PervisFinishes4thAtthetime.png

But finally finishes the day at 15th, 23 seconds in arrears.

Vaugrenard has an awful day, and doesn't get us our required stage win.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1Vaugrenard.png

25th @ 28'

But then again, so does Cancellara.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStageCancellara.png

18th @ 24 seconds.

Brajkovic does very well, finishing 2nd.

i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/Cleavers/TDFStage1Brajkovic.png

But no one can beat Dekker. Who's so fast, the cameras weren't ready to take a picture.
