Giro d'Italia Final Stage! (whoooo!)

With a bit of luck, and avoiding crashes, we should see ourselves being lifted off the bottom of the Pro Tour rankings!
Early on into the stage, a group of minor GC contenders went for the break.

Visconti, Lovkvist, Castano were all present, and so our GC position was technically in threat. To deal with it, Brouzes led Mespoulede, Mederel and Kuschynski to the front to keep the gap level and start to bring it down. It was very helpful, and once the sprint teams took over, the break was not going to gain any time.

With 2.5km to go, the break was overtaken by the sprinters.

And who would win the final stage?
None other than Gasparotto.

More importantly, Belkov had done it. A top 10 overall!

Overall a great GT for us. We move to one spot above bottom (ie 2nd...) and it's looking up for us.
Coming up, Belkov will hope to carry some of his form over onto the Dauphine and so he can do the TTT at Eindhoven. He'll be supported once more by Kiryienka and Sobal. Levarlet will take on the Tour de Suisse.

I'll get the pro tour rankings up in a min, but for now....
Criterium Dauphine Libere
A strongish team here, both for training (Kiryienka, Sobal, Tronet) in stats, and fitness (Vaugrenard is getting ready for Le Tour and Eindhoven). And of course, Belkov is here to win! (or get as close to as possible!)

Stage 1

Karpets was the first rider to go. And he would win! Amazing. But considering the stage was meant to be 8km, it was shortened to 2km by...erm... normal weather?!

Cancellara is getting ready for the tour as well.

Vaugrenard hopes for a new jersey by le Tour.

Due to incompetance, and doing the stage about 2 months ago, I deleted all stage 2 pics without posting them. What a pity. You get to miss out on a flat stage where Vaugrenard gets in the break, which doesnt succeed, and someone else wins.
Moving swiftly on to better things...
Stage 3:

The first test of Dauphine is a nice hilly race. Interestingly there is a vast amount of flat before the climbs to get past first.
As usual, a break of 6 forms, with KoM leader Cherel in it. It won't succeed, not on a day like today.
On the first climb, with the break pegged back to within 3 minutes, the first few tentative counter attacks begin. Vila being the only one to get away. For 3 km.

Soon after Vila gets caught, so does the break, and the race starts to heat up.
On every climb, some of the favourites attack. Not being in the disposition to counter due to Valverdes rather fast "tempo" riding for his team, Belkov just has to watch his fellow GC contenders go.

Some sit up, whilst others push on. Luckily for Belkov, the entire thing is somewhat farcicle, and everything is back together (minus Kaggestad who is beating Gaudin in the race not to be last man in).
The final climb sees the real attacks go. With 6km to the summit they begin, and literally tear the race apart. Evans, Schleck and another guy who will appear in the results, gets away, and Belkov scrapes his way into group 2.

Sure they will lose time on stage winner Evans.

But to be honest, Belkov isn't the best on hills, so is happy to limit losses.

Take that Mr Voekler
