What a Great win in Croatia from Lawson

Miguel98
Great win for Craddock.

FreitasPCM
Nice win for Craddock. Wink

Thanks.
I was pretty surprised as his form wasn`t ideal. Must be somewhere around 78-82 or so. But luckily Morkov and Kump weren`t in form. Otherwise Morkov`s 77 in cobbles and Kump with ~75 in sprint and cobbles and 72 in hill would have helped them a bit more. Plus both have a much better flat stat.

Istrian Spring Trophy

The second Croatian race in a row for our team. And this time I am back in my saddle to ride again. It`s the UCI Europe 2.2 Istrian Spring Trophy.
Unfortunately my form is not back on the level from South Africa as I had a training break in between. I want to slowly higher my form again and don`t expect that much here. Still a few highlights should be possible.

imageshack.us/a/img685/636/istrian2013profil1.jpg
imageshack.us/a/img407/5722/istrian2013profil2.jpg
imageshack.us/a/img708/6984/istrian2013profil3.jpg
imageshack.us/a/img213/7983/istrian2013profil4.jpg

We start with a short prologue. Only 3,7km to ride and with Craddock we have a prologue expert in our team, who surely belongs to the 4-5 favourites for this stage.
I can`t really say if I prefer the 2nd or the 3rd stage. Both are incredibly hard with the 2nd having more climbs, while the 3rd having the harder final climb. Both ending in a uphill finish surely should lead to some selection and the prologue result won`t matter that much I guess.
The 4th stage is for the sprinters. Ben Grenda is not really in form, but maybe he will be after the first 3 days. He is the rider to work for in this final stage.

imageshack.us/a/img593/3404/istrian2013team.jpg

Nathan Brown will get a free role here as he is a decent allrounder and surely having the best form together with Atkins. Myself and Crawford will also get some kind of free role as we won`t start with a lonely leader here. It all depends, who performs the best on the first hill stage.
Grenda only focussing the last stage hoping for a decent result while Atkins, Lawrence, Wilson and Craddock are mainly helpers. But also they might get a chance to join a breakaway.

imageshack.us/a/img832/1795/istrian2013startlist.jpg

The startlist is full of great riders starting with Team Koga with the former Sky duo Thomas and Sivtsov and Ariesen. That`s also the favourites for the prologue, the overall and perhaps even the flat stage. Other names to watch for the GC are Janse Van Rensburg, this time the brother Jacques, Juul-Jensen, Parra Pinto, English, Kamp Egestad, Schumacher, Kilun or Howes.
So in especially Koga, Kenda and Christina Watches must be expected to do the pace here.

Our team only has outside chances for even a top10 to be honest. So everything better than a top15 is a success.

I did some work on my screenshots starting with this race inspired by Pelli`s amazing story. I used Photoshop to add some lightnings/contrasts/sharpenings on every picture. I hope you will like it.

Lets hope that Craddock can continue his form in Croatia Wink

Stage 2 and 3 really do look like something for Ryan there!

@sutty: You can check now. Wink
@Ian: He is starting with 72 form. So not very ideal with these opponents.

Istrian Spring Trophy

Prologue - Umag - Umag (3,7km)
imageshack.us/a/img707/7722/istrian2013150.jpg

A short prologue for the start. Craddock is a prologue specialist but actually the question is who can beat Geraint Thomas. The Brit is one of the best prologue riders in the world, so it was a surprising move when he decided for Team Koga. But obviously they plan something big with a great trio Thomas, Sivtsov and Ariesen.

imageshack.us/a/img339/7324/istrian2013151.jpg

Thomas is also the first favourite to be on the road today. His time will show us if he is in form.
4'37 for him. This means ~48km/h which is surely not bad.

imageshack.us/a/img826/1590/istrian2013153.jpg

Schumacher is another favourite for the overall. He is a good puncheur and also nice time trialist even though he might prefer the longer ones. He loses 10s to Thomas but being 2nd so far. This even more shows how fast the Brit was.

imageshack.us/a/img844/2355/istrian2013155.jpg

First Bontrager rider reaching the finish. It`s Lawson Craddock. Unfortunately he had a weaker day and couldn`t perform on the level he showed last week. 19s to Thomas in the end and only the provisional 8th for him.

imageshack.us/a/img405/3416/istrian2013157.jpg

Nathan Brown with a much better ride. As said he is peaking here and rides to the provisional 3rd being in the same time as Schumacher 10s behind Thomas.

imageshack.us/a/img94/2787/istrian2013159.jpg

Atkins also surprised with his ride today. Provisional 5th just behind Brown as Lang finished as 2nd with +9s to Thomas.
Atkins is losing 14s today but this is an excellent performance by our Kiwi.

imageshack.us/a/img526/869/istrian2013161.jpg

Time for me to start this prologue. I am not the best time trialist and today without a good form this wasn`t a great start. I finish at +27s and will most likely be somewhere in the middle.

imageshack.us/a/img854/2848/istrian2013163.jpg

Jacques Janse Van Rensburg is more a stage racer with harder climbs than his brother, who prefers the hills and sprints. +23s for him in the end. He surely will have to show his real strength on the uphill finishes.

imageshack.us/a/img818/2047/istrian2013165.jpg

Emami is a very interesting rider. He signed for the German LKT team and is a good climber. Same time than me. +27s.

imageshack.us/a/img692/9898/istrian2013167.jpg

El Fares also went down to a CT team. The French is always a great rider to have and he showed some great performances last season. +22s for him.

imageshack.us/a/img826/4508/istrian2013169.jpg

English might be the best chance for a high GC for the USA. He is a very good stage racer on this level. Losing 20s might be a bit more than expected but he is better on the uphill part.

imageshack.us/a/img11/2374/istrian2013171.jpg

Kamp Egested did a great ride in South Africa where Christina Watches showed that they can handle a double leadership with Schumacher and him. The pure puncheur must be happy with +26s.

imageshack.us/a/img69/2730/istrian2013173.jpg

Jørgen Jensen is another great Danish talent here and actually a very similar rider to Kamp Egested. He wins the Danish duel by 3s.

imageshack.us/a/img703/3108/istrian2013175.jpg

Sivtsov might be the puncheur to beat and with +19s he shows a pretty good ride for him. He definitely is in form obviously.
But how will they handle the hilly stages now with Geraint Thomas being in the lead? We will see tomorrow.

Brown finishes on a great 4th with Atkins coming in as 7th. Craddock on a slightly disappointing 17. and Crawford as 35. could have been expected a bit higher. But in the end a very successful day for us. In especially as Brown and Atkins lead the U25 ranking after this stage.

For myself this was a decent start. I haven`t expected much but it showed me that my form is not on the best level yet and that it is a huge difference to South Africa were my legs were much easier.

Istrian Spring Trophy

Stage 2: Umag - Labin (148,4km)
imageshack.us/a/img24/1397/istrian201321.jpg

Todays stage might be the most selective with all these up and down on the 2nd half. Brown, Crawford and myself will have to fight to stay with the best. The best of us today will get all the needed support tomorrow.

imageshack.us/a/img845/130/istrian201322.jpg

Brown is planning different and after he spoke to our GM they decided to go for the long break and eventually the KoM jersey.
He is joined by Kers, Nyborg, Sabido and Balck.

imageshack.us/a/img191/700/istrian201324.jpg

Christina Watches and Koga are doing the pace behind. Surely the strongest teams here next to Kenda and so the logical and expected situation.

imageshack.us/a/img713/7760/istrian201326.jpg

Only Kers challenged Born at the first KoM. But Nathan was stronger by far and wins the first points of the day.
Sabido comes over the top as third.

imageshack.us/a/img24/4416/istrian201328.jpg

Same situation at the second climb. Kers attacked too early and got outsprinted by Nathan with Sabido leading the remaining group over the line without spending energy.

imageshack.us/a/img594/4821/istrian2013210.jpg

LKT and Gios improved the pace over the two Cat. 2 mountains which led to a selection of just 79 riders left in that group.

imageshack.us/a/img823/6533/istrian2013213.jpg

The sprint was more contested than the KoM points. Sabido in first with Balck and Brown following. This will give him 2 more seconds.

imageshack.us/a/img854/9859/istrian2013215.jpg

With 32km left the gap is down to 2min. Brown again wins the last Cat.2 of the day. He didn`t even attack here as the opponents looked to exhausted already. Balck and Nyborg collect the first real points today while Kers couldn`t follow.

imageshack.us/a/img685/7796/istrian2013218.jpg

American attack. English, Kilun (Kenda) and Haga (Kelly) jump out of the peloton with 30km left. Still 3 climbs left but this is a nice move by them.

imageshack.us/a/img705/7536/istrian2013220.jpg

But already before the next climbs they are caught together with the breakaway. Final 23km and 3 hills left.

imageshack.us/a/img836/4084/istrian2013223.jpg

Several riders attack now. Such as Valjavec, Kilun, Salazar, Dyball, Atehortua, Rubiano or Rovira. So the biggest favourites are still waiting but these are very dangerous of course.

imageshack.us/a/img5/9384/istrian2013225.jpg

5,4km left and only Dyball and Schumacher are left in the front. Time for Sivtsov and Janse Van Rensburg to attack.
I still stay behind as I feel I don`t have the legs to counter any attacks. I am just glad to keep contact.

imageshack.us/a/img543/4757/istrian2013227.jpg

2,5km left for me and it becomes really hard to follow. Crawford is a bit ahead of me but also having problems in one of the last positions.

imageshack.us/a/img707/5628/istrian2013229.jpg

Last km and Sivtsov leading solo. The other attackers fall back into the favourite group.

imageshack.us/a/img90/7275/istrian2013231.jpg

Dominant win for the Koga rider. But what will the officials decide? Any gaps today?

imageshack.us/a/img542/9127/istrian2013233.jpg

I finish as 37th with Crawford being 28th. Both are counted the same time but unfortunately there was a gap to the first 18 riders, which means losing GC chances for a possible top15 I guess. Tomorrow we have to hope for a better result.

Positive is that Brown indeed was able to take the KoM lead and maybe even wins his 2nd KoM this season.

Good work with the picture edits. It's a bit tricky to find the right combination of filter, saturation and editing effects, but I think you've succeeded. Smile

Great races lately as well. Craddock's Porec trophy victory was perhaps the big highlight, but these KoM jerseys are also nice.

The screenshot where English, Kilun (Kenda) and Haga (Kelly) escape is absolute fantastic.

Maybe it would be even better a bit darker? Just my opinion. Maybe we'll see a bit less, but I think it might look more "realistic", because it's darker Wink

Have to agree with the guys above me, the screenshots are Great Smile

Scouting Report

As mentioned earlier the first scouting reports have reached us. Knowing that some talents from the USA and Australia will be highly contested we wanted to convince some talents as early as possible.
And luckily I can already give you two names, who will ride for our team as stagiare from August.

imageshack.us/a/img844/2690/michaelbarnettneopro.jpg

Michael Barnett is one of our home talents. He is a born time trialist and we hope he can improve as much as possible in our team.
He was eastily convinced to be honest as he is a friend of Lawson Craddock. Both went for several training rides already. This plus the fact that Ian Boswell and in especially Joseph Dombrowski made the jump into the higher divisions obviously helped us a lot.
"When Bontrager came to me with an offer, I didn`t thought about it very long. I was still positively shocked as it came quite unexpected. But it surely is the right team to make the next step in my career", Barnett said.

The second signing for August is Perry Jones. When the scouts sent us the first impressions we knew, that we wanted this guy. Later when more reports came in he became a must have for us.
He is still very young with just 18 years but his skills are definitely above average. He is already a decent puncheur and also has the ability to keep contact in longer stages already in his young age.
Australian cycling experts have him on the radar for a few years already thinking he could become the next Aussie star in this sport.
His role model is Simon Gerrans and we really hope that one day he will have similar success than him. Seeing that we were able bring Dale Parker to the Pro Tour we hope that he will be another Aussie reaching this in our team.

@Pelli: KoM are the easiest to get with a small team. Wink But sometimes winning or podium with a rider is really great as it`s always a surprise.
@Ian: I have changed a little bit again. Not sure if it`s darker or even better. But have a look on your own. Wink

Istrian Spring Trophy

Stage 3: Vrsar - Motovun (157.8km)
imageshack.us/a/img266/4796/istrian201331.jpg

Todays stage is the 2nd hilly stage in a row. Yesterday Sivtsov impressively showed his strength and why he was a great rider also in a Pro Tour team.
Crawford and me were finishing within the same time and so it`s still a shared leadership. The one with better legs today will be supported the most.

imageshack.us/a/img404/3586/istrian201332.jpg

6 riders in todays breakaway. One of them our breakaway expert Joshua Atkins, who enjoys being in the offense. Bartl, Parra Pinto, Merino, Starchyk, McConvey are the other 5 riders.
First three are all in a good GC position, so the main work is obviously done by those. Atkins can relax a bit more and just doing shorter terms.

imageshack.us/a/img145/764/istrian201337.jpg

Merino wins the first KoM ahead of Atkins who wants to protect Brown`s lead. Behind him Parra Pinto takes the next points.

imageshack.us/a/img14/4738/istrian201339.jpg

The acceleration at the KoM led to a selection where all three weaker climbers including unfortunately also Josh Atkins losing contact with the stronger trio.

imageshack.us/a/img844/158/istrian2013311.jpg

33km left and we start with the preparations for the final climb. Almost 3min left to the breakaway when three riders attack. One of them is Austin Crawford trying to improve his GC position with a longer attack. He is joined by Atehortua and Anthony.
This also means that I stay in the peloton concentrating on the uphill finish.

imageshack.us/a/img341/1979/istrian2013313.jpg

25km mark and Koga is doing a high pace. They are supported by Gios and Christina Watches. All three teams don`t want the breakaway to succeed and accelerate.

imageshack.us/a/img855/3632/istrian2013315.jpg

7km left and we start the climb. The group with Crawford is still having a 40s gap with the former breakaway being another 46s ahead. Who will be the strongest today?
Covered by Craddock I am in the first rows just next to race leader Sivtsov.

imageshack.us/a/img33/3869/istrian2013317.jpg

Parra Pinto is surely the strongest climber in the group and attacks 500m later just when Crawford joined them.

imageshack.us/a/img23/2115/istrian2013319.jpg

Also the peloton is becoming active now. Kamp Egested and Rubiano Chavez attack first with Sivtsov taking over the pace which leads to more selection.

imageshack.us/a/img837/9104/istrian2013321.jpg

2km left and the breakway and also the late attackers with Crawford are caught.
Kouwenhoven and Quaade still try something and attack.

imageshack.us/a/img10/1187/istrian2013323.jpg

The sprint starts and I am just behind Sivtsov. There are still a few riders ahead but they really struggle against the lexx exhausted riders in the favourite group.

imageshack.us/a/img824/8274/istrian2013325.jpg

Due to my form I quickly lose contact to him when he is pushing forwards into the lead. I definitely need some more race kilometers and training rides to be on my top level again.

imageshack.us/a/img443/9020/istrian2013326.jpg

Quite easy he also takes the second uphill finish and will keep the leader jersey.
Kamp Egested and Kouwenhoven are coming in next.

imageshack.us/a/img109/3087/istrian2013327.jpg

I lose several positions in the end and only finish as 21st. But at least I am counted the same time as the winner while Crawford unfortunately loses contact in the end due to his effort. He finishes in the 2nd group with +1min.

For the GC this means I`m moving up a bit into the top30. Not very much but more than nothing. Brown more importantly keeps the KoM lead as todays points were shared too much.

Brave attempt from Ryan but as you said he needs more race kilometres in his legs Wink

Ian Butler
Oh yes, oh yes, this is definitely it! Those screenshots are extremely beautiful, exceptional!
So good I missed half the text Pfft

ste_18
Finished to read some few report i missed and i can say Ryan is doing good. Fortunately he didn't loose time in the last stage, a shame Crawford lost 21 seconds.

roturn
Sorry for the delay. Had less time over Eastern. But here finally the last stage.

@Ian: Good to know. Will continue with the actual settings. Maybe make a few changes from time to time.

Istrian Spring Trophy

Stage 4: Pazin - Umag (124km)
imageshack.us/a/img203/3967/istrian2013429124km.png

It`s the final stage here in Croatia. GC-wise it wasn`t the biggest success for our team. But Brown`s KoM lead surely is.
Today it`s something for the sprinters so we will try to bring Grenda into a good position.

imageshack.us/a/img259/1314/istrian2013430.jpg

A group of 8 was allowed to create a 2'30 gap. One of them is Lawson Craddock. Unfortunately he wasn`t able to repeat his great win from few weeks ago but today he will surely try again.

imageshack.us/a/img838/4452/istrian2013432.jpg

Kenda, Chipotle and Koga are the main sprinter teams here. Koga could even make it a 4/4 stage wins here as Ariesen surely is one of the best sprinters in the peloton. But also Gerain Thomas could be their option. The prologue winner could be dangerous with a late attack.

imageshack.us/a/img826/5889/istrian2013434.jpg

With 10km to go the breakaway is caught. Unfortunately Craddock won`t be able to fight for the stage win. And the course is a bit harder than expected. There are some hills here and the pure sprinters struggle a bit. Also Grenda is not really liking any hills and isn`t placed very well.

imageshack.us/a/img842/2448/istrian2013436.jpg

So I am also placing myself behind some sprinters. Grenda is ~15 positions behind me.
The sprint is very chaotic as there is no real train and also some crazy car driver is now somewhere blocked in between the sprinters...

imageshack.us/a/img854/6461/istrian2013439.jpg

Koga with a monster race here. Ariesen dominantly takes the 4th stage making it 4 consecutive wins for the team. Sivtsov takes the GC here after his two uphill finish victories.
This trio will surely improve their chances to get a Pro Continental license next season.

imageshack.us/a/img94/7015/istrian2013440.jpg

I finish as 12th of the day which is a good personal result and the maximum in a sprint finish. Grenda was a bit further behind as 21st. Not ideal, but we have other races where our form will be better.

And winning the KoM is a great result. It`s already the 2nd KoM win by Brown this season and he starts to love his new role in the team as he has far more freedom than last season.
