Enjoyable stage! Kinda bummer that they slowed down close to the finish though, but still a small group gapping the bunch is good news then. So some good racing by Machado indeed, which is nice to see. Alacorn and Amador doing well, i expect Alacorn to attack the GC-lead now.. Definitely a strong late move there today.

No gaps, I'm happy. Although Machado looked ready to pull out a gap.

Suaza seems to be excelling on home roads, which is great to see.

Jose really rode nicely there, not panicking when other favourites went up the road and saving a nice bullet for the end. Not the sort of stage where you expect gaps, so nice to get some time.
Machado is looking commanding but amador is keeping him in check, all big guys kniw one bad day will cost them.

Great to see a strong Contador! Also nice to see Antón come home with the 10th place and top 10 in the overall. It's unlikely he will stay there for the rest of the race, but the gap down to 20th place is huge, meaning he's looking good for a nice overall placing.
Hopefully Contador can continue this way and be one of the strongest in the mountains, then anything less than a top 5 overall will be disappointing.
Thanks for a nice report, SN, and congratulations on Suaza's riding, he's really the surprise so far of the GC riders. |

And so... Velits underperforms.

Keizer doing okay. A bit unlucky to finish behind guys like Faiers. Suaza big surprise here.
The last ITT isn't that long still hope Keizer can reach a top5-10 GC and winning the ITT. Would be important points. In especially as the team is not going into the breakaway. |

Okay, so Ratiy is not injured. That is pretty good. So he can still be expected to finish within top 25.

Really need Denifl to step up and produce some good rides in the coming mountain stages.

Come on Amador, the TT isn't long enough for you to lose this much time.

Love how Suaza is climbing here! This could be huge points for Vesuvio, too.
Alacorn attacking as expected, but what a huge fight from Brajkovic and also Machado! Thrilling report, thanks SN! Alacorn still needing more gains on Machado, this will be interesting for sure.

Losing Schadlich sucks. Really need Keizer to win the ITT. |

Hopefully that was Contador's bad day this tour. Definitely worrying to see him gapped by Velits, Suaza and Denifl. With Velits back on the same time, it could be tough to keep that top 5 if Suaza continues his brilliant climbing.
As tsmoha points out, if Suaza can continue in a similar style, it could quickly become a lot more difficult for the other top teams to beat their Luxembourgian challengers.
Thanks for what was another interesting mountain stage to read about, SN. |

Finally Velits doing closer to what I am expecting from him! Nice to see Howard still being in the race, but I can't see him surviving till the next sprint stage. Hopefully Velits can continue doing better and better in the next mountain stages.

Alar con continues to probe like the climbing gnat he is. If he is to miraculously win another stage race he needs to keep attacking - I wonder if taking the jersey will help or hinder. I hope it strips Machado down to his early Vuelta form
Fantastic performance from him there and big wow at the eliminations they really are stacking up.

Well, it seems we've lost the lead à l'arcon
I shouldn't be making jokes, this isn't good, but I'm still hoping that Machado helps me get my revenge on Smowz Contador was the biggest loser today though, and may have lost a chance for the podium.
Amazing stage, thanks for bringing that to us SN
