After six hot days on sunny weather of Australia, Wouter Poels came to one of the biggest wins in his career. Preview
Welcome to Qatar, the land of sand and money, where weather is absolutely perfect in February. It is not too hot neither too cold. One major obstacle is cross winds which can make the hell for the peloton. Stages are flat and perfectly designed for sprinters. But only obstacle for pure sprinters could be team time trial, where teams could lose significant amount of time.
Many of great sprinters have won this race. Mark Cavendish won this race last year, Tom Boonen year before and Mark Renshaw in 2011. Tom Boonen is also the man who has most wins on this race; believe it or not, he has won 20 stages so far and has grabbed four times overall victory.
OmegaPharma-QuickStep is coming on this race with their best flat riders, Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen. Taylor Phinney is the first rider for BMC and he will try to exploit team time trial to win this race. Giant-Shimano came with their best sprinters Marcel Kittel and John Degenkolb, so they are coming on this race with high hopes.
Theo Bos and Lars Boom will be the main contenders for Belkin. MTN-Qhubeka comes to Tour of Qatar with two riders who already won some races this year. Gerald Ciolek won Tour of Taihu Lake and Daniel Teklehaimanot, who won La Tropicale Amissa Bongo race. Elia Viviani is Cannodale’s sprinter and their leader. Orica Green-Edge is coming with very strong squad, both sprinters and time trials, so Mat Goss is definitely among favorites for the overall win. Also Roberto Ferrari is here for Lampre, Cantwell for Drapac.
I hope you’ll enjoy the race.

Tour of Qatar
Stage 1
Welcome to Qatar where 30 degrees and wind which is blowing through the desert can make real hell for riders. Stage flat as a pan is a real desert for the sprinters such as Cavendish, Kittel, Degenkolb, Viviani, Ciolek and others. High pace in stage’s finish combined with cross winds is something that riders have to deal with and we will see who will have the strength to come up with a victory.
Merdj (VCS), Prete (BFL) and Barbin (BAR) are in the lead with 30’’ ahead of the peloton. Breakaway is caught.
After catching the breakaway 4km before intermediate sprint Thomson is attacking.
Thomson (MTN) is taking seconds in front of Ciolek (MTN) and Mori (LAM).
76km to go and Thomson has 6’15’’.
Thomson takes maximal points on second intermediate sprint. Rest of the points are taken by Ciolek and Timmer (GiA).
MTN-Qhubeka is setting its sprint train.
With 3.8km to go there was a big crash on the back of the peloton. Half of the peloton is there, Marcel Kittel (GIA), Leigh Howard (OGE), Dominik Nerz (BMC), Francesco Gavazzi (AST), Mikel Landa (AST) are some of them.
However, the others are heading for the sprint finish.
Mark Cavendish is the strongest man in today's peloton. Second is Elia Viviani and third is Theo Bos. Brilliant sprint finish from Cav.
Ciolek is sixth, Sbaragli seventh. Not bad, could have been better.

Stage 2
TTT is going to be very tricky. Not so long but with side wind it is going to be essentially to maintain straight line of the riders and to make good, strong shifts. We will see use up to the task. With Taylor Phinney BMC is definitely major favorite for this stage with Orica Green-Edge and Omega-Pharma Quick Step.
First from the start goes team Groupement Sportif Pétrolier Algérie and they set the best time. After them go riders from Team Budget Forklifts. They set the same time as the previous team.
Huon Salmon - Genesys Wealth Advisers is the next and they set the best time more than 40'' better than previous time. Great ride from this small team. Vélo Club Sovac is next and they set the second time. Terengganu Cycling Team is on the road and they are third.
Lampre - Merida, first of WorldTour teams, but their time trial abilitiies are not in that rang. They set the third time.
Next is MTN-Qhubeka and they set the second time. Very well for African squad. Drapac starts and they set third time at the moment.
Bardiani Valvole - CSF Inox are next on the start and they set the time same as Vélo Club Sovac.
Astana Pro Team goes from the start and sets third time. Right behind MTN-Qhubeka. Giant-Shimano is next and they are second.
BMC starting from the ramp but their time is extremely bad. They are better only from Team Budget Forklifts and Groupement Sportif Pétrolier Algérie.
Cannondale Pro Cycling starts next and they set the best time. Belkin then sets even better time. Orica is on the road. On the first intermediate time check they have the best time. They have the best time and at the finish.
Last starts OmegaPharma - Quick Step Cycling Team and they have the best time on the finishing line. What a win for them. Brilliant performance on this short course.
With seventh time and 43'' lost MTN-Qhubeka did a great time trial, maybe the best in their history. Really good performance compared to excellent World Tour teams who have much more experience.

Tour of Qatar
Stage 3
After TTT this is another stage for sprinters where Cavendish, Kittel, Bos, Viviani, Ciolek will look for their chances to score. With bizarre weather in the desert, rain and strong cross winds, it is going to be very hard for both riders in a breakaway and the peloton.
Daniel Teklehaimanot is attacking and leaving the peloton. He is in a solo breakaway.
OmegaPharma - Quick Step is setting the pace. Teklehaimont makes
First intermediate sprint, of course, takes Teklehaimanot (MTN). From the peloton rest of the points go to Vandenbergh and Vakoc (OPQ).
18km from the finishing line, Teklehaimanot is still in the lead with 1’50’’ ahead of the peloton which has only 23 riders. Ciolek is still in the peloton. Degenkolb, as well as whole Giant-Shimano is in the group behind. Also, Renshaw, Pethacchi, Impey and Tuft are falling from the back of the peloton. High pace and cross winds are doing great damage in the peloton. They underestimate Daniel Teklehaimanot and gave him to big lead.
8km from the finish line peloton has stopped working. Many legs are tired.
1.6km Teklehaimanot has 3’00 lead ahead of the peloton. This is a certain victory for Daniel Teklehaimanot.
Daniel comes through the finish and takes both, victory and leader's jersey. What a solo performance from Teklehaimont.
Second comes Cavendish and third Theo Bos.
Here is new man in yellow: DANIEL TEKLEHAIMANOT
Excellent ride on the rain in Qatar's desert. What a day, really what a day...

Tour of Qatar
Stage 4
After incredible solo effort, Teklehaimanot managed to get into yellow jersey by winning the third stage of Tour of Qatar. Nobody could expect something like that. Today is another rainy day in a desert. What a weather for Qatar, unbelievable.
After couple of km breakaway has been formed, Hermans (BMC), Dyachenko (AST), Walker (DPC), Mori (LAM), Othman (TSG), Tamarante (GSP) and Chaabane (VCS).
Cannondale and OmegaPharma-QuickStep are controlling the gap.
Mori takes first intermediate sprint ahead of Hermans and Dyachenko.
Second one takes Hermans without any fight.
20km to go, lead of the escapees is 1’22’’.
Othman attacks, and manages to stay in front of the peloton. Incredible victory for him. Daniel is safe in the group with yellow jersey on his shoulders.

Stage 5
Breakaway, which consists of Mori (LAM), Dyachenko (AST), Chaabane (VCS), Dyball (GP), Lapthorne (DPC), Juel (BFL), Bongiorno (BAR) and Mat Amin (TSG), has been formed very quickly.
40km to the finish line Cannondale and Belkin are setting a high pace.
20km Viviani has a mechanical issue and whole team is waiting for him. This thing disrupted the peloton. Lapthorne is increasing his lead.
It's a victory for Lapthorne right in front of the peloton. Amazing break by Drapac's rider.
What is more important, Daniel is still in yellow. One more day, one more...

Tour of Qatar
Stage 6
Last stage of Tour of Qatar. After interesting 5 stages this is going to be great finale of this week. Teklehaimanot and MTN-Qhubeka are defending 1 minute lead ahead Cavandish so this is almost decided where the leaders jersey goes. But everything is still possible and OPQ thinks the same way. 120km keep Teklehaimanot from the biggest win in his career.
Breakaway is formed very quickly and pain free for peloton. Tiralongo (AST), Richeze (LAM), Cummings (BMC), Kvasina (TSG), Kessi (GSP), Prete(BFL), Lahsaini (VCS), Locatelli (BAR).
Thomson is setting a pace for MTN-Qhubeka.
Kessi wins only intermediate sprint. 66km from the finish line escapees have 3’10’’.
Belkin, Giant-Shimano and Cannondale joined into chasing breakaway. Cavendish has mechanical problems and he loses time and his second position.
Giant-Shimano is opening the sprint.
Victory for Kittel in front of Viviani and Bozic. Teklehaimont is in the group and takes victory in general classification on Tour of Qatar.
Bravo Daniel, BRAVOOOO
Ciolek is second in points classification, behind Mark Cavendish. Good result for him.
